Job Description

Who we are looking for

A Software Asset Management Engineer, who will help to manage and maintain software configuration management items, managing and maintaining all of the data requirements.


Working within the team, you will help to audit and maintain the data and software packages that are utilised across the Business. Utilising various software, asset management and vulnerability toolsets, you will ensure that all data is accurate and up to date, recorded correctly and that the required processes are followed for changes to this dataset.


Your primary focus will be to look at the vulnerabilities found for software and open source packages and ensure these are correctly mapped for resolution by the various methods available. These may be upgrades and removals and will sit with various teams.


Preferred skills and experience

  • Experience with working in a software packaging and distribution role, whilst having an understanding of software asset management principles and requirements.
  • Ability to use software asset management toolsets and principles, including SNOW Licence Manager, Nessus and Truesight.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to analyse large amounts of data including Excel formulae such as vlookup and pivot tables and present this data back, using the data to calculate compliance and configuration positions.
  • Strong understanding of technology and tools, including Active Directory, software distribution including BCM, XenApp, XenDesktop, asset inventory and configuration management tools.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to present back highly technical outputs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to build relationships and engage with key stakeholders across the Business.
  • Experience of strong analytical problem solving.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment on multiple projects with independent deadlines and deliverables.
  • Team player with a can do attitude and the ability to work alone with minimal supervision, taking personal responsibility for deliverables and work stack.
  • Strong process management, document and control skills utilising ITIL v3 foundation.


Main Responsibilities

  • Identifying software tags and creating rules to track and trace software deployed across the estate to ensure all identifiable instances from various sources are correctly tracked.
  • Working with teams across the Business in reviewing and upgrading deployed software, consolidating duplicated software functionalities.
  • Producing accurate reports and escalating identified compliance risks and issues to Senior Management.
  • Working with the Information Security department in resolving vulnerability, risks and issues identified.
  • Following internal processes to manage the license agreement repository and data within the system by regular auditing and verification.
  • Ensuring new vendors and licenses are onboarded correctly and inventory is reconciled correctly.
  • Coordinating and facilitating the third party download process to ensure key stakeholders approve the onboarding of new software requests.
  • Keeping up to date with vendor roadmaps, emerging software, technology and software risks.
  • Working with a multitude of IT and Business teams.
