Job Description

Job Title: SEN nglish Teacher Essential Criteria: PGCE, Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent teaching qualification and evidence of in-service training.
Location: Stoke on Trent
Contract Type: Fixed Term until end of December 2024
Hours: 40 hours per week
Salary: M1 UPS2 £157.91 to £236.16 per day

We are currently looking for an experienced English Teacher to join an'Outstanding' rated School. The schoolsupports young people aged 6 - 19 with ASC, communication and sensory needs. They offer life skills and a wide range of GCSE/BTEC accreditations alongside a functional skills/entry level pathway. Behaviours across the school are excellent.

We are looking to appoint someone with experience of delivering outcomes for young people who are of secondary age but working below age related expectations and on a life skills/ functional pathway.


The Role:
As an Englilsh Teacher, your role will be to provide high quality teaching that will enable pupils to make progress. You must be creative and have high expectations. An understanding of ASC would be useful to support the planning and delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum to enable our pupils to achieve their full potential in all areas.

To facilitate this, youll plan and deliver lessons that support young people, supporting them to be independent and resilient learners both in and outside of the classroom.

Naturally, you will take responsibility for implementing school policies and practices, including those relating to safeguarding and equality of opportunity. Additionally; you will also be expected to carefully monitoring the health, well-being and personal care of our pupils; informing Pastoral/clinical/ SEND support teams and any other relevant professionals of any concerns.

Responsibilities:
Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:
  • Qualified Teacher status
  • Experience of teaching up to and including GCSE English
  • Experience in achieving outstanding outcomes
  • Thorough working knowledge of the curriculum and how to adapt this for pupils with SEN
  • Experience of working with young people with ASD
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
  • Ability to create and maintain strong nurturing relationships with young people
  • Experience of managing a range of approaches to learning, to include the students with anxiety.
  • Knowledge of strategies and visual teaching methods to engage reluctant learners.
  • A flexible approach, a high level creativity and the ability to adapt teaching to meet individual needs
