Location: Royston

As the Project Engineer you will be responsible for the delivery of smaller projects/ plant modifications that are typically generated from Hazard studies or Management of Change reviews. The role holder will manage works from initial concept through prioritisation, work scoping, design and execution in order to deliver operational, EHS, reliability, quality and business improvements. Working alongside functional stakeholders, the role holder will ensure projects are delivered in accordance to Johnson Matthey Policy and standards, the agreed objectives, on time, within budget and with zero EHS incidents.

Your responsibilities:
  • To ensure that allocated projects are properly scoped, specified, designed safely, commissioned and managed on time, to a high-quality standard, right first time and within budget allocated.
  • The safe management of contractors used to undertake the projects under their control.
  • Ensure appropriate communication to all stakeholders in the form of regular status reports, including escalation to the Lead Project Engineer and Engineering Manager.
  • Maintaining local information systems.
  • Operating and adhering to EHS best practice and JM procedures at all times, ensuring all tasks are carried out safely and in line with JM policy.
  • Plan and prioritize own work to ensure delivery of key objectives.
  • Issuing and managing permits to work as well as reviewing and creating risk assessments and method statements.
  • Highlight risks inherent in plant mods and coordinate/participate in hazardous operation studies.
  • Raise reports for any incidents, accidents or learning events witnessed.
  • Work closely with customers and stakeholders to understand the requirements and scope of each plant mod to draft a solution proposal.
  • Actively participate in company communications including toolbox talks, safety flashes, shift handover, performance meetings and monthly business updates.
  • Any and all other duties that may be assigned by the Lead Project Engineer or Engineering Manager.


Requirements for the role:
  • Chemical/ Mechanical Engineering/ ECI degree / HNC - Essential
  • Experience of successfully managing engineering projects from concept through to delivery - Essential
  • Experience working in a process / metal working environment - Desirable
  • Experience in writing and implementation of procedures, specifications and policies - Essential
  • Good knowledge and understanding of DSEAR & ATEX - Desirable
  • Good working knowledge of ECI - Desirable
