Metro is seeking Ocean Operators to join our dedicated Import and Export teams. As a part of these teams, you will be at the forefront of our mission to provide exceptional support to our clients. You will play a pivotal role in orchestrating the movement of goods across international waters, ensuring they reach their destinations safely, efficiently, and on time. Your attention to detail, strong communication skills, and ability to adapt to ever-changing situations will make you an essential part of our team.


Key Responsibilites:

  • Develop and build relationships to ensure a high level of customer service is provided to clients.
  • Take requests and queries and resolve them effectively and efficiently.
  • Ensure freight is moved on time with all the necessary documentation
  • Ensure all freight is invoiced and checked prior to dispatch
  • Ensure pre-alert documents are on hand as required
  • Communicate (using email, telephone and internet systems) with overseas agents and clients clearly, precisely and accurately and resolve issues and complaints in a timely manner
  • Arrange haulage with shipping line/hauliers
  • Ensure all freight is invoiced and checked
  • Use customer ERP and SAP systems as and when required
  • Maintain customer and supplier spreadsheets.
  • Ensure that the sales department are aware of client activity and business profitability.
  • Ensure that the departmental manager is aware of the status of all shipments
  • Take ownership of your own training and development so as to continuously improve and develop


General Skills:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in freight forwarding
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, to provide a professional image to customers and suppliers.
  • Able to cope and accustomed to working under pressure to meet fixed deadlines
  • Strong numerical and commercial skills
  • Excellent attention to detail with An understanding of why this matters and the commercial impact this has
  • Excellent usage of computer / operating system (Microsoft Windows) along with other office applications (Microsoft Office) (Cargowise – preferable)
  • Proactive, team worker with excellent time management and organisation skills
  • Enthusiastic, flexible, and self-motivated
