Job Description

As a Principal Hardware Engineer you will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team to create innovative hardware engineering solutions, for safety-critical technology. This role will provide you with the opportunity to work with ground-breaking cutting edge projects as a member of a very experienced diverse team, with the view to progressing your career in this industry.


Your main responsibilities will involve:


  • Executing complex hardware design tasks in tandem with the hardware development plan, meeting timescales and budget.
  • Hardware requirements capture, preliminary design, detailed design including analysis
  • Design innovation and identifying improvements
  • Providing technical guidance and support
  • Coaching & developing junior team members
  • Delivering design artefacts in line with industry standards
  • Working within an integrated multidisciplinary team

Your skills and qualifications:


  • Degree/HND in electronics engineering or equivalent
  • Proven working knowledge and experience of digital &/or analogue electronics technologies
  • Familiar with working with the engineering development lifecycle, from concept to product certification
  • Ability to provide robust engineering judgement across the engineering development lifecycle
  • Strong understanding of product design and work package control

Working knowledge of the following tools would be advantageous:

  • Mentor Graphics Expedition Enterprise
  • Analogue simulations tools, e.g. Simetrix/ Spice
  • Timing designer tools, e.g. Chronology
  • Signal integrity tools
  • System development tools, e.g. Enterprise Architect, Matlab, Simulink
  • Requirements management tools, for example; DOORS
