Principal Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer with a strong background in Structural and Civil Design Engineering to join our client in Huddersfield. This role involves managing the delivery of a diverse range of engineering projects, particularly those related to highways, and overseeing financial accounts. The successful candidate will have a solid technical understanding of highway-related schemes, as well as strong project management and team leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Project Management: Lead and manage the delivery of engineering projects on and adjacent to highways, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and budget.
• Technical Expertise: Apply in-depth knowledge of safety, legislative, regulatory, and legal requirements related to highway schemes. Ensure compliance with industry standards, policies, and procedures, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of how local government operates.
• Team Leadership: Manage a team with minimal supervision, handling a challenging and dynamic workload that may change at short notice.
• Financial Management: Oversee the financial aspects of projects, including budget management and cost control, ensuring all financial objectives are met.
• Decision Making: Take a proactive approach to negotiation and decision-making, including engaging with trade unions and other stakeholders to resolve issues effectively.
• Compliance: Ensure all recruitment and management practices align with safe recruitment policies, promoting equal opportunities within the team.

Location: Huddersfield (HD1)
Contract Type: Temporary (Ongoing)
Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 09:00 AM - 05:00 PM
Pay Rate: £31.36 per hour (PAYE) or £40 per hour (Umbrella)
