American Express is looking for an experienced public relations professional to join its Corporate Affairs and Communications team.

Based in London, this position reports to the Director, Corporate Affairs & Communications. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and delivering public relations strategies and campaigns in order to protect and enhance the reputation of American Express in the UK. In particular, the candidate will work across American Express' Brand and Consumer Card Campaigns. In addition to handling Consumer Card press enquiries, working closely with Personal Finance media, the candidate will be responsible for supporting the Company's community PR programme.

The candidate must be an excellent storyteller, and able to bring to life how American Express backs its customers, colleagues, and communities.



Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute PR strategies for company initiatives, while contributing to an always-on press office function that maintains American Express' public presence.
  • Build and foster strong relationships with key stakeholders including colleagues, media and industry.
  • Respond to media enquiries and prepare spokespeople for interviews.
  • Provide communications support to senior leaders relating to company announcements and initiatives.
  • Draft speeches and presentations on behalf of senior leadership, ensuring American Express has a public voice on important industry trends and topics.
  • Work in partnership with social media, CSR, and internal communications colleagues to deliver a fully integrated communications approach.
  • Oversee a PR agency in the execution of select projects.
  • Serve as a member of the company's Crisis Response Team, providing communications counsel during times of crisis.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Significant years' professional experience in public relations (consumer, brand and / or Personal Finance preferred).
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to craft and implement highly effective PR strategies and secure high impact media coverage.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Self-motivated team player with proven ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues across a company.
  • A willingness to learn.
