With Gigi, we're building the future of dating with a twist of AI. After a decade of swiping, we envision a future where an AI dating assistant will make online dating relevant and fun again. Imagine a world where Gigi does all the hard work for you, the chatting, the filtering, and comes back to you only with the profiles who will be worth your time. You heard well: she does the chatting, you do the dating. No more awkward convos nor ghosting, when Gigi makes an intro, she makes sure it converts to a date IRL.

What we're looking for

We are currently looking for a Backend Engineer. Our stack Python backend deployed on GCP, utilizing mostly REST APIs, Postgres databases on GCP, Redis, and PubSub. What you will do:

• Feature Development: Design and implement new backend features, including API schema definition and endpoint implementation. Consider performance impacts, as our user base is in the thousands.
• Collaboration: Work closely with frontend developers, product managers, and designers to launch new features.
• Infrastructure Monitoring: Keep an eye on our infrastructure, troubleshoot bugs, and handle high-load situations.
• Dashboard Creation: Develop dashboards and back-office tools for user activity moderation and monitoring.
• ML Integration: Implement machine learning algorithms in collaboration with our data scientists. This could range from simple API calls to complex AI models and vector embedding indexing.
• Agile Environment: Thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment where you might need to pivot quickly, redesign architecture, and bring ideas to production swiftly (1 hour for simple tasks, 1-2 days for complex ones).
• Pragmatic Coding: Adopt a pragmatic approach to coding. We prioritize quick fixes and minimal testing, accepting that breaking things in production is okay as long as they’re promptly resolved.

Your qualifications

• Experience: 3+ years working on backend systems.
• Skills: Proficiency in Python and SQL, a solid understanding of database mechanics, and experience optimizing requests and caching.
• Asynchronous Tasks: Familiarity with handling asynchronous tasks and queue mechanisms, especially in high-traffic scenarios.
• Web Basics: Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Algorithm Expertise: Good understanding of algorithms, useful for tasks like matching algorithms or chat synchronization.
• Technical Knowledge: Broad understanding of tech, including notification systems, database indexing, CDN optimization, image processing, and ML algorithm implementation.
