Role Overview:
The IDEMIA Smart Identity Business Line is seeking a Patent Engineer to ensure the protection of inventions and intellectual property while safeguarding IDEMIA’s products and processes from patent infringement. As a Patent Engineer, you will play a vital role in driving innovation while maintaining compliance with patent laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Invention Management: Detect and analyze invention submissions to ensure proper protection.
- Patent Applications: Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications, and manage patent portfolios including international extensions, pruning, and maintenance.
- Intellectual Property Training: Train operational staff on intellectual property matters.
- Patent Valuation: Manage patent licenses and intellectual property agreements to maximize the value of the patent portfolio.
- Patent Committee: Lead monthly meetings with R&D experts to evaluate and decide on new patent filings and international extensions.
- Legal Advisory: Provide legal advice on the patentability of inventions, patent validity, infringement, and freedom to operate.
- Opposition and Litigation: Handle oppositions with the European/French Patent Office and coordinate litigation processes, under the supervision of an experienced patent engineer when necessary.
Requirements:
- Qualifications: CEIPI diploma (or equivalent) is mandatory, with EQE qualification recommended.
- Experience: Prior experience in patent prosecution, drafting, and portfolio management is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of intellectual property laws and processes, especially related to technology and innovation.
- Ability to work collaboratively with legal teams, R&D experts, and external partners.
- Analytical mindset and attention to detail in reviewing and prosecuting patents.
- Excellent communication skills to train teams and provide legal advice on complex intellectual property issues.
