Job Description

Tasks will include but are not limited to: Key Responsibilities: Cost Management & Commercial Duties: Cost Analysis & Planning: Prepare detailed cost analysis based on drawings, engineering estimates, and labour requirements. Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed cost estimates for variations encountered during projects and assisting estimating department with proposal preparation Tender & Contract Documentation: Prepare tender documents, including bills of quantities (BOQ), and evaluate tenders from contractors and subcontractors. Budget Control: Control all project stages within predetermined budgets, monitoring progress, and managing variations, ensuring alignment with client expectation and project goals. Valuations & Payments: Conduct monthly valuations of work in progress, including forecasting final costs and sales, and certify subcontractor monthly valuations. Contractual Advice: Provide advice on commercial and contractual matters, review contracts, and draft project-related correspondence, while ensuring compliance with agreements and legal requirements Reporting & Documentation: Produce accurate formal reports in accordance with the business timetable and communicate with project staff and subcontractors to ensure commercial controls are in place. Value Engineering: Identify opportunities to reduce cost while maintaining quality and performance standards. Client & Stakeholder Liaison: Client Communication: Liaise with clients, suppliers, and contractors on commercial, measurement and project timeline matters that will impact Contract Price and / or schedule. Project Meetings: Attend project meetings to discuss and resolve quality issues and maintain close communication with all stakeholders. Conduct site visits to assess work progress, quality and adherence to specifications, measurement and assessments of work completed, ensuring proper billing. Qualifications and Experience Grade 12 or equivalent. Bachelors degree in quantity surveying (4 years full-time or 5 years part-time) or a related discipline advantageous, or a 3-year diploma in Quantity Surveying from a University of Technology, with advancement to a B-Tech degree after an additional year of study. Experience Minimum 5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry, with specific experience in structural, mechanical, piping, and plate work. Proven experience in managing quality assurance and quality control activities on construction projects. Required Skills: Commercial Acumen: Strong numeracy skills, with the ability to forecast costs and manage budgets while minimizing financial risk. IT Proficiency: Ability to use Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project. Organizational Skills: Strong practical skills in resource planning and program scheduling. Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with all levels of the project team, including clients, suppliers, and subcontractors. Problem-Solving: Ability to identify recurring issues, initiate corrective actions, and resolve quality-related problems efficiently.
