Job Description
JOB SUMMARY: Analyze and develop tool and die designs for use in the manufacture of forged products (closed die – press forging) that meet all engineering and manufacturing objectives.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide forged part and tooling designs for both airfoil and non-airfoil products. Includes designing for all forge processes required (i.e. extrusion, upset, blocker/preform, final forge).
2. Review design requirements with customer and Process Engineering to ensure all criteria is accurate and acceptable.
3. Create detailed CAD models and drawings for forged parts and tooling.
4. Evaluate die designs using DEFORM simulation software.
5. Troubleshoot forge tooling problems and participate in new tooling development trials.
6. Create CNC programs for machining of forge die tooling. Work closely with tool room personnel to provide instructions and documentation.
7. When required, provide design information and instruct outside vendors in matters of design and build of forge tooling.
8. Support Tool Room, Quality Control, and Metrology with CAD modeling and dimensional layout assistance.
9. Interact with Process Engineering to provide part layouts for quoting and estimating of new products.
10. Participate in Kaizen and Continuous Improvement workshops both at Cleveland and other Pursuit Aerospace sites.
11. Perform other duties as required or assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
1. Associate or Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering. Proven equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
2. Minimum five (5) years of experience in the metal working industry.
3. Proficient in CAD (CATIA V5 preferred).
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:
1. Tool and Die/Mold preferred. Design knowledge specific to the forging industry is a plus.
2. Understanding of 3-D geometry related to complex surface definition.
3. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
4. Working knowledge of CNC programming and machining principles.

1. Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.
2. Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
3. Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
4. Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust.
5. Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull various weights.
