What youll be doing

As our Senior Communications Executive you will play a key role in delivering our internal and external communications strategy. Youll be responsible for crafting compelling messages that resonate with a wide range of stakeholders, from senior leaders and colleagues through to journalists and members. Whether its developing content for internal campaigns or writing speeches for executives, youll ensure that communications are clear, engaging, and aligned with the IET's mission.

You will also manage multiple communication channels, including the intranet and social media, ensuring that both internal and external audiences stay informed and engaged. Your work will involve coordinating with senior stakeholders to transform their messages into impactful copy, contributing to major events, and driving awareness of key initiatives through innovative campaigns. Additionally, youll be tasked with building relationships with the media, handling press enquiries, and pitching stories that enhance the IETs profile.

Alongside content creation, youll oversee the reporting and analysis of communication efforts, ensuring continuous improvement. By monitoring performance and engagement metrics, youll help the team adapt and refine strategies to enhance the IETs visibility and reputation. Your ability to juggle multiple projects while maintaining a creative flair will be key to your success in this dynamic role.

What we hope you can bring to the role

Were looking for someone with a strong background in communications or journalism, who is skilled at transforming complex ideas into accessible and engaging content. You should be adept at communicating with both internal and external audiences, tailoring your style to suit different stakeholders, whether thats senior executives, employees, or members of the press. Experience in managing multiple communication channels, including digital platforms like intranets and social media, is essential.

Youll need excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across the organisation and build strong relationships with key influencers, both inside and outside the IET. Your experience in copywriting will be vital, as will your ability to write speeches, news articles, and press releases that capture attention and convey clear messages. The role requires someone who can confidently manage a fast-paced workload, juggle priorities, and adapt to shifting deadlines.

Creativity and problem-solving are also important, as youll often need to develop fresh ideas for campaigns and communication strategies. Your strong organisational skills will help you manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of accuracy and attention to detail. Above all, were looking for a team player who can work collaboratively to enhance the IETs reputation and support its mission to engineer a better world.

  • Craft engaging content for both internal and external communications, including speeches, articles, and digital posts.
  • Translate complex messages from senior leaders into clear and accessible copy for a range of audiences.
  • Manage internal communication channels, such as the intranet, and support colleague engagement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with journalists and media outlets, handling press enquiries and pitching stories to enhance the IETs profile.
  • Develop and implement creative communication campaigns to support strategic objectives and key events.
  • Coordinate high-profile events, such as the Presidents Address, providing communication support and managing media involvement.
  • Monitor and report on communication effectiveness, using insights to improve future campaigns.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, ensuring consistent and aligned messaging across departments.
  • Support the production of presentations and briefing documents for senior stakeholders ahead of media and public engagements.
  • Assist with internal events and broadcast communications to keep employees informed and engaged.

  • Knowledge of media relations, including pitching stories and handling enquiries.
  • A flexible, proactive approach, with a passion for delivering impactful and innovative communications.
