Job Overview:
We are looking for an experienced and diligent Operations Manager and Assistant Designated Person Ashore (DPA)/Company Security Officer (CSO) to join our maritime team. Based in Chichester, this role is essential to ensuring the logistical support and safe and secure operation of our fleet, providing vital support to our vessels and crews, and maintaining compliance with maritime regulations.
You will be responsible for ensuring operations management and compliance with the International Safety Management (ISM) Code, International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, and other relevant maritime regulations. The successful candidate will be a point of contact between the company and vessels for safety, environmental protection, and security matters.
Key Responsibilities:
The Marine Operations Manager for is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the company’s fleet. This role includes managing daily vessel operations, ensuring regulatory and compliance standards are met, coordinating with crew and maintenance teams, optimizing vessel performance, and liaising with charterers and clients. The Marine Operations Manager also monitors operational budgets, handles logistics, and implements best practices to improve safety and operational efficiency while supporting project delivery and business objectives. Strong leadership, communication, and maritime expertise are essential.
As deputy DPA:
- Ensure company compliance with the International Safety Management (ISM) Code.
- Act as the primary contact for vessel masters and crew in relation to safety and environmental protection issues.
- Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the Safety Management System (SMS) and ensure it is up to date.
- Conduct internal audits and support external audits to verify compliance with SMS requirements.
- Investigate any accidents, incidents, or non-conformities, and recommend corrective actions.
- Liaise with flag states, port authorities, and regulatory bodies on safety and compliance matters.
- Provide shore-based support during emergency situations and coordinate response efforts.
- Travel around the fleet and provide support as and when required
As CSO:
- Ensure compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
- Act as the main point of contact for all maritime security matters, working closely with vessel security officers.
- Develop, implement, and maintain ship security plans.
- Conduct security assessments and manage security drills, ensuring that all procedures are followed.
- Report and manage any security incidents, liaising with port authorities and relevant security bodies.
- Oversee crew security training and ensure all personnel are updated on current security measures.
General Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate records related to safety, security, and compliance activities.
- Coordinate and manage effective communication between the vessels and shore-based management.
- Monitor changes in maritime regulations and ensure that the company stays compliant.
- Prepare and submit necessary reports to senior management and regulatory bodies.
- Provide guidance and support for continuous improvement in safety, environmental protection, and security standards.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience in maritime operations.
- In-depth knowledge of the ISM and ISPS Codes, as well as other relevant maritime regulations.
- Strong understanding of safety management systems and security protocols in the maritime industry.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage emergencies effectively.
- Experience conducting safety and security audits, risk assessments, and investigations.
- Relevant qualifications or certification in maritime safety and security are desirable but not essential.
