Job Description
Purpose of the Role
Sewtec Automation invents, designs, manufactures, installs, and supports effective industrial automation systems worldwide for a vast international customer base which includes some of the best-known brands in industries ranging from food and drink to medical devices and pharmaceuticals.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing bespoke equipment with a proven track record of providing innovative solutions to complex problems and a deep understanding of the unique challenges and requirements of the sectors that we supply to ensure that Sewtec remains a market leader in providing automated solutions to new and existing customers.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the design and development of bespoke equipment, ensuring alignment with customer specifications and industry standards.
* Provide expert knowledge in mechanical and systems design, utilising CAD software and simulation tools to optimise designs for performance and manufacturability.
* Ensure all designs meet relevant safety and regulatory standards, including ISO, FDA, and GMP guidelines.
* Work closely with the Project Management Team to manage multiple projects from concept through to completion, co-ordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery and adherence to budgets.
* Provide a high level of commercial awareness to ensure design solutions are delivered in a cost-effective manner & scope changes are managed in line with standard operating procedures.
* Effectively communicate project status to the senior management team.
* Work closely with customers to understand requirements, present design concepts, and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle. This will involve occasional travel to customer sites within the UK and overseas.
* Works to the company’s technical standards and processes.
* Preparation of documentation such as System Specifications, Risk Assessments, FMEA, and FDS.
* Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and professional development within the team.
* Identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation within design practices and across the wider business.
Key Skills
* Proficient in 3D and 2D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD preferred).
* Possess a good understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
* Competent (and confident) in all technical aspects of mechanical design and development of special purpose machinery (ideally gained within a similar environment).
* Strong knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively to develop innovative solutions.
* Experience of undertaking technical calculations.
* Experience of undertaking FEA.
* Experience with automation and control system.
* Experience of working within a multi skilled environment (i.e. knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic and electrical components).
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
* Competent in the use of the following Microsoft products: Excel, Word, Power Point, Project, Outlook, Teams.
Qualifications
* Minimum HNC qualified in relevant mechanical discipline or demonstrate through considerable experience.
* Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in design engineering, specifically in the food or pharmaceutical industries.
* ISOH SPA Passport (Desirable).
