This is an exciting opportunity to join the BBC World Service leadership team, reporting into the BBC News Global Director, the Head of World Service Group Editorial Quality and Compliance will be responsible for enhancing the consistency and quality of news output and standards across the World Service Group, with strategic responsibility for developing a high quality journalism culture. This will include overseeing high risk editorial international content.

Main Responsibilities

• Develop and implement effective processes to protect the World Service Group's reputation and integrity with regards to compliance and editorial standards and liaising with Editorial Policy on the application of policy and processes across the World Service Group.
• To provide quality control and consistency to enhance the strength, depth, range and quality of output for the World Service Group, ensuring that this is done in line with the Group's strategic priorities.
• To collaborate with World Service Group editorial leaders to maximise editorial value across the Group, increasing audience reach as well as ensuring alignment with the wider BBC News objectives.
• To safeguard World Service Group's journalistic and editorial standards, support the Group's brand and enhance reach, reputation and the impact of World Service journalism.
• To collaborate with World Service Group editorial leaders to develop and embed ways of working that drive positive change in editorial focus and control, leading to a culture of consistently high quality journalism.
• To support team management activities including recruitment, development, training and employee relations activities and processes, in line with agreed standards and practices.
• Support senior editorial leaders with high risk journalism through the provision of pan World Service group editorial oversight and championing impartiality
• Provide insight to Managing Editor team responsible for journalism training to ensure output is at a consistently high level.
• To develop a culture of across the World Service Group which delivers a greater understanding of editorial quality.
• To represent the World Service Group and BBC News and Current Affairs at a senior level and take accountability for the implementation and delivery of wider World Service Group strategic goals.

Are You The Right Candidate

Essential
• An expert in their field, providing professional leadership and acting as a role model to teams and colleagues.
• Adept at managing numerous and diverse senior and executive level stakeholders, often operating under tight timescales and managing competing priorities.
• Experience of operating at a senior level in the public sector, public service and/or liaising with external/governmental stakeholders.
• A convincing and persuasive communicator, required to engage and influence teams and modify beliefs and opinions of teams, where needed, as well as senior stakeholders. Able to establish effective and collaborative relations across BBC departments, and external agencies/stakeholders where required.
• Awareness of current markets, trends and issues within the broadcasting industry and wider media sector, and deep knowledge of output across the whole of the BBC, as well as that of competitors.
• Functional expert with broad and comprehensive understanding of theories, systems and practices relevant to their functional area.
• Clear understanding of the way in which output is commissioned, financed and produced both for domestic and international markets.
• Broad and comprehensive understanding of all BBC regulatory and contractual obligations as they pertain to their functional area.
• Experience in managing significant budgets and understanding key financial drivers.
