About the Financial Institutions Group ("FIG")
FIG is one of several groups within the London Corporate Practice. It focuses on transactional and advisory work in the financial services sector. The group has a pre-eminent position within the UK and international legal marketplace and is banded Tier 1 in the legal directories.
The group consists of five partners, eighteen associates, and a dedicated PSL. FIG's clients include insurers, re-insurers, insurance brokers (including the Lloyd’s market), banks, asset managers and other financial institutions. The work is varied covering mergers and acquisitions (including through Part VII schemes), capital raisings, take-overs, IPOs, joint ventures and distribution agreements as well as general corporate and regulatory advice.
About the Global Insurance Sector
Our global insurance sector group advises the world's leading insurers and reinsurers on complex transactions, disputes, financing, regulatory and commercial matters. The team is an award winning and top tier ranked global practice comprising c. 200 fee-earners.
The purpose of this role three-fold:
Provide business development and marketing support for the London Financial Institutions Group.Provide strategic global insights, business development and marketing support for the Global Insurance Sector Group, which spans the US, EMEA and APAC – this element of the role is truly international.Strategic client focus through the support of a number of bank, asset management and insurance client relationship-building efforts that are driven out of the FIG Group.
What will you be responsible for
Strategy and Budgeting
- Act as the "go-to" for BD and marketing information/strategy for FIG and the global Insurance sector.
- Develop and execute strategic business development and marketing plans for FIG, the insurance sector and key product offerings.
- Maintain oversight of priority clients and prospects including who is leading on each relationship/pursuit.
- Prepare annual big ticket spend marketing budgets and appraise the ROI on a periodic basis for the FIG Group.
Business Development
- Actively support 1:1 client development activities of the FIG Partners.
- Help to facilitate the flow of information to drive collaboration and cross-selling of client relationships and products.
- Work with the FIG Group to "market map" to help identify market trends and new client opportunities.
- Maintain and keep updated a suite of capability statements.
- End-to-end support of matter-specific pitches including facilitating "go/no go" decisions; and feed into global panel RFPs as needed (led by our Global Proposals Team).
- Initiate and manage a client listening programme, in particular, post-matter and client relationship reviews.
- Research clients and targets as needed (working with our Client Insight & Business Intelligence Team).
- Lead BD support for some of the key client relationships in FIG to help deepen and broaden relationships.
Marketing and Reputation Building
- Work closely with the partners and professional support lawyers to identify "hot" legal and commercial developments and build successful marketing campaigns and thought leadership pieces around these with the support of the Brand Communications and Marketing team.
- Develop and constantly refine FIG and insurance sector value propositions that can be included in marketing materials and pitches and utilised across internal and external communication channels and platforms.
- Help prepare the FIG Group's directory submissions and support the directory research cycle including liaising with the researchers (with the support of our central directories team).
- Help manage key client events (seminars, webinars, client social events, roundtable dinners, conferences, etc), as well as support the BD sessions of some internal group/sector events.
- Liaise with the PR team to capitalise on media opportunities.
- Assist with the preparation of regular sector management reports.
Other
- Ensure that partners and associates are following best practice when utilising the firm's BD systems and processes e.g. matter capture, InterAction, distribution of briefings and client communications using V-Mail, etc.
- Lead and manage other business development project activities as required from time to time.
- Help develop the skills of others in the Corporate CM&D team and support associates in developing their BD skills.
- Lead and manage wider business development projects across London Corporate as required from time to time.
- Upskill, line Management and oversee junior members of the team as required by the senior manager for London Corporate.

Skills:
- You will be highly motivated, a self-starter, committed to high performance, and have a track record of furthering your personal development and career progression.
- You will have strong project management and analytical capabilities.
- You are able to prioritise projects and respond quickly to requests which have a short turnaround time.
- You will need to be pragmatic and flexible to ensure that the areas within your responsibility are well managed whilst contributing positively and enthusiastically to the CMD programmes in other areas.
- You will have strong interpersonal skills and exceptionally strong communication skills, both verbal and written (including strong editing and proofing ability and attention to detail).
- You will have well developed influencing and presentation skills and be confident, resilient and focused.
- You will be able to demonstrate a track record of being pro-active and delivering high quality work.
- You will have strong general software skills (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
Experience:
- You will have extensive experience of working on competitive proposals and pitches ideally within the professional services market.
- You will have experience of working in a transactional practice or sector role, ideally within the professional services market or equivalent experience in a client development/account management business development role (knowledge of the financial services sector is desirable but not essential).
- You will possess commercial acumen including an understanding of financial products and how corporate and financial institutions operate.
