You will join the Asian Investment Banking Division (AIBD), which plays a key role in promoting Corporate & Investment Banking products and services across the Asia and Oceania regions, serving both Global and Japanese Corporates.
The Portfolio Management department within AIBD is crucial in overseeing structured loans originating from AIBD, which span sectors like real estate, oil and gas, infrastructure, renewables, energy, utilities, and shipping. The department's primary focus is to monitor and improve the credit quality of the portfolio through direct engagement with internal and external stakeholders, as well as conducting credit risk assessments and providing support.
As the team leader, reporting directly to the Head of Department, your responsibilities will include managing and supervising a team tasked with overseeing a portfolio of structured finance assets across Asia. These assets stem from Project Finance (PF) (covering power, natural resources, and infrastructure) and Real Estate Finance (RE). You will provide leadership and senior guidance to Team Leads and members responsible for portfolio management within the Project Finance and Real Estate sub-teams.
Responsibilities:
You will play an important role in our team by taking on responsibilities that include (but are not limited to):
Client Management and Strategy
- Lead and oversee the PF and RE sub-units in implementing solutions by negotiating with clients, bank syndicates, external advisors, and internal stakeholders, including handling waiver terms and amending documentation.
- Collaborate with the Origination team to arrange refinancing transactions, including deal execution, negotiations, and reviewing documentation.
- Foster strong client relationships through regular direct communication, representing the business objectives to address issues and manage customer needs effectively.
Portfolio Management, Credit Risk Analysis and Reporting
- Lead and manage the PF and RE sub-units to proactively oversee the overall risk profile of assets, including continuous monitoring of client and project conditions, identifying risks early, recommending necessary changes to mitigate those risks, and ensuring timely reporting to internal stakeholders.
- Guide the PF and RE sub-units in assessing and executing secondary loan sales in collaboration with the Distribution Team.
- Oversee the PF and RE sub-units in the negotiation of waiver terms and amendment documentation.
- Lead the PF and RE sub-units in the preparation, management, and oversight of the approval process for borrowing ratings, credit applications, and reviews.
- Manage the PF and RE sub-units in the preparation and oversight of Management, Head Office, and Regulatory Reporting.
- Supervise the approval process for internal operational matters within the team, including accounting-related reporting, internal audits, credit examinations, administrative and system authorizations, asset evaluations, covenant monitoring, and other valuations.
Leadership, Team-level Initiatives and Staff Management
- Advise the Head of Department and lead various strategic initiatives from both a team-wide and project-specific perspective, including improvements to risk management and credit monitoring processes to enhance business efficiency, optimize exposure, manage provisioning, and control budgeting.
- Support the Head of Department in the overall management of the portfolio and sector coverage.
- Oversee the PF and RE sub-units in the daily management of the team, ensuring compliance with internal credit policies and operational guidelines.
- Develop, implement, and lead the execution of business strategies within the PF and RE sub-units to improve operational efficiency.
- Act within delegated authority limits.
- Represent the team in divisional and regional meetings on behalf of the Head of Department, when necessary.
- Manage staff responsibilities, including performance reviews, recruitment, mentoring, motivation, addressing professional development needs, and handling resource allocation for the PF and RE sub-units.
Requirements:
- People Manager with experience leading a regional team in banking
- Minimum 18 years experience in origination, loan documentation, credit and risk analysis, recommendation to senior management and credit committee across multi disciplines for Project Finance and Real Estate
- Experience in credit risk or financial analysis, critical and data analysis, impact sensitivity studies, cashflow or financial modelling, options analysis, valuation, financing documentation and legal considerations.
- Experience in specialised Shipping transactions
- Degree qualified in Finance, Banking Accounting, or related discipline
- Have experience to manage operational and administration function
- Strong understanding of banking products
- Excellent technical skills, a strategic mindset and sound business acumen with proven track record.
- Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent negotiation, communication and writing skills.
- Strong management skills, Including collaborating with other departments and other regions.
- Proactive, resourceful and a good team player, with ability to build rapport with internal and external parties.
