Software Engineer - Risk Systems & Data Analytics


Our client is a leading quantitative hedge fund based in London and is expanding its risk engineering team. They are looking for a senior engineer to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of their risk systems/platform and risk analytics for the firm. Within this role, you will work side by side with the trading teams, the front office technology department as well as the risk management team to ensure the seamless operation of their sophisticated, real-time risk platforms that are crucial to the firm's continued success.


Responsibilities:


  • Design, develop, and implement data pipelines and real-time applications that power the organization’s risk systems
  • Lead and mentor the Risk team on engineering best practices, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence
  • Collaborate directly with risk specialists to build, maintain, and enhance existing systems
  • Scale and evolve the risk system for real-time processing to align with business growth and objectives
  • Work cross-functionally with multi-disciplinary teams, building strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Continuously improve system reliability, performance, and monitoring


Qualifications & Requirments:


  • Proficient in one backend programming language e.g., Java, or C++ - Python and SQL is a must.
  • Strong knowledge of distributed systems and messaging technologies such as Kafka.
  • Hands-on experience in data engineering, including relational databases, data pipeline construction, and Lakehouse systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to guide and influence team members
  • Familiarity with cloud, containerization, and microservice infrastructures (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker, Helm)
  • Experience with stream processing technologies (e.g., Flink, Kafka Streams)
  • Expertise in data modeling, data warehousing, and ETL design patterns
  • Experience with workflow orchestration and scheduling platforms (e.g., Airflow, Dagster)
