A Principal Engineer is needed by a leading retailer in the automotive sector to join their growing tech team and lead the next phase of their journey.

The Role:
Reporting directly to the Head of engineering the Principal Engineer will play a crucial role in shaping the technology that underpins both internal and customer-facing systems.
This role involves designing, developing, and delivering high-quality software solutions with a focus on scalability, performance, and maintainability. The Principal Engineer will mentor a team of engineers, establishing best practices and ensuring technical excellence across all projects.
The role involves working across various web applications and services, with an emphasis on building responsive, reliable, and fast platforms. The focus will primarily be on modern JavaScript technologies, while also collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure technical solutions align with business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of both internal and customer-facing web applications
- Architect and implement scalable, high-performance systems using JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node.js, and cloud-native technologies
- Work with AWS services, Serverless frameworks, and Lambda functions to build, deploy, and maintain modern cloud-based solutions
- Champion Unit Testing and automated testing practices to ensure code reliability, maintainability, and performance
- Collaborate with product managers and other stakeholders to align technical solutions with business objectives
- Mentor and guide engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, best practices, and testing excellence
- Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to high software development standards.
- Contribute to the technical strategy and direction of our technology stack, with an emphasis on leveraging cloud services and serverless architectures
Skills & Experience:
- Extensive experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Next.js and Node.js
- Proficiency with AWS, Serverless architectures, Lambda functions, and cloud-native application development
- Strong expertise in designing and maintaining scalable, high-performance web applications
- Deep understanding of Unit Testing frameworks and a commitment to writing clean, testable code
- Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams, with a strong emphasis on testing, quality, and technical excellence
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to proactively resolve complex technical issues
