Challenges:As a Legal Counsel, you:
- Advise on laws and regulations relating to content and safety, including the Digital Services Act and the AI Act in the EU, ensuring risk monitoring, implementation and ongoing compliance with those laws;
- Support our Trust & Safety team, advising on content moderation issues, law enforcement cooperation worldwide, safety policies, and platform integrity;
- Support our Product team, through effective communication and collaboration, to ensure that our products comply with privacy and safety by design principles, consumer laws and transparency requirements;
- Provide legal support to the Public Affairs function, particularly in areas related to legislative developments, regulatory changes, and government relations;
- Assist the DPO in creating and implementing privacy programs, raising awareness about data privacy and privacy rights, develop and update the legal documentation (required by the GDPR and other data privacy laws);
- Manage and monitor contracts lifecycle, from drafting, negotiation and renewals or termination;
- Assist the Legal team in managing authorities investigations and information requests;
- Identify potential legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring that the company is protected from legal disputes and compliance issues.
- Academic background: The candidate should hold a Master 2 degree in Law, ideally with a specialization in Intellectual Property (IP), Information Technology (IT), or Data Law. Alternatively, a more general Master 2 in Business Law is also acceptable, provided the candidate has demonstrated experience or a strong interest in the technology sector.
- Bar Admission (Optional): Admission to the bar is considered an advantage, though not a strict requirement.
- Professional background: The ideal candidate will have >5 years of professional experience in a legal role, preferably within a corporate environment (start-up/scale-up or tech company) or a law firm with exposure to technology clients. Experience working in the tech sector, particularly in social media, will be considered a strong advantage.
- Specific knowledge: The candidate must have a thorough understanding of data protection and privacy regulations, particularly those relevant to the European market (e.g., GDPR). This includes creating and updating legal documentation (privacy policy, records, data protection impact assessments, etc.), handling data breach incidents, and ensuring the privacy of consumers is upheld across all company operations.
- Platform Regulation and Compliance: The candidate should be familiar with the regulatory frameworks governing user-generated content and B2C platform, especially those covering user safety, content regulation (e.g., DSA in Europe), product compliance, and consumer laws. They will be responsible for advising on risks and compliance issues related to product features, reviewing policies to manage content, preventing fraud, etc.
- Regulatory Cooperation and Audits: The role requires the ability to effectively collaborate with regulatory bodies, handling audits and responding to information requests from authorities like CNIL and ARCOM in France. The role also requires to create collaborative process with local law enforcement authorities in markets where we operate.
- Contract Drafting and Negotiation: The candidate must have strong experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of contracts. This includes agreements with partners, vendors, and service providers, as well as terms of service and privacy policies, ensuring all contractual terms align with the company’s legal and business interests.
- Collaboration with External Counsel: The candidate should have experience working in collaboration with external legal counsel, such as law firms and specialized attorneys. This includes managing relationships with external advisors, leveraging their expertise for complex or specialized legal matters, and ensuring that external legal advice is effectively integrated into the company’s strategy and operations.
- General Legal Knowledge and Adaptability: While the candidate’s primary focus should be on the specific areas mentioned, a solid understanding of general business law is essential. This includes corporate governance, artificial intelligence and other upcoming regulatory matters, and the ability to adapt to a wide range of legal challenges, providing support across different legal domains as required.
