About the Role
An established UK-based higher education institution is seeking an experienced Linux System Administrator to join their IT Service Operations team. This role offers the chance to serve as a key technical specialist, managing Linux-based platforms across both on-premise and cloud environments. Key Responsibilities
- Platform Maintenance and Optimization: Oversee Linux platforms to ensure high availability and peak performance across university departments.
- Problem Management: Resolve high-priority incidents, conduct root cause analyses, and drive improvements in service quality.
- Service Improvement: Contribute to service enhancement plans, focusing on network services and infrastructure utilization.
- Technical Support and Documentation: Serve as a technical resource for platform services, maintaining detailed platform documentation.
- Collaboration and Security: Work closely with architects, security teams, and IT colleagues to implement secure, effective solutions.
What You’ll Bring
- Technical Expertise: Strong experience with Linux (especially Redhat) on-premise and cloud systems, as well as a solid understanding of networking as it applies to server infrastructure.
- Scripting and Automation Skills: Proficiency in scripting for process automation and an understanding of application stacks.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Analytical and proactive, with a talent for identifying and resolving technical issues.
- Communication and Collaboration: Ability to work under pressure and collaborate effectively with both internal and external technical teams.
- Commitment to Learning: A proactive approach to staying updated on emerging technologies and trends.
Desirable: Knowledge of DevOps, database troubleshooting, and ITIL practices. Experience in the education sector is a plus!
Qualifications
- Essential: Degree or equivalent experience in IT or related field.
- Desirable: ITIL Service Operations or equivalent IT Service Management certification.
