Our work spans across multiple areas, including physical stores, online, supply chain, marketing, and Clubcard, with opportunities for rotation across domains to broaden expertise. Job Description : Responsibilities : As a Data Science Manager, your primary responsibilities will include : - Leading Innovation : Drive the innovation process across technical and business domains, developing data science algorithmic features. - AI Governance : Establish and manage frameworks for ethical and responsible AI practices, ensuring regulatory compliance. - Project Management : Set up and manage data science projects, ensuring appropriate resourcing and removing blockers. - Team Leadership : Line-manage, mentor, and guide a team of data scientists, fostering their professional growth. - Strategic Direction : Shape the strategic direction of the team, balancing priorities and risks effectively. - AI Governance Collaboration : Partner with legal, compliance, and technical teams on governance matters, conducting risk assessments and educating on AI policies. - Technical Collaboration : Work with Engineering to design complex systems and influence team architecture. - Advocacy : Promote data science both within Tesco and in the broader Data Science community. Required Skills : Mathematical & Statistical Skills : - Advanced degree in Mathematics, Science, Engineering, or Computer Science, with a focus on Data Science. - Python Expertise and a strong background in Machine Learning. - Proficiency in Software Engineering best practices (SDLC). - Experience in designing scalable ML systems and managing open-source Data Science environments. - AI Governance Skills - Knowledge of Machine Learning, Data Science, and AI ethics. - Familiarity with legal and regulatory AI frameworks and data protection. - Experience in data governance, risk management, and compliance frameworks. - Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical & Leadership Skills : - Proven success in innovation projects and team management. - Experience in hiring, coaching, and building high-performing Data Science teams. - Ability to set strategic directions and manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders. - Experience in academic partnerships and retail/logistics/ecommerce is advantageous. Relevant Experience : - Leading technical Data Science projects involving AI governance. - Cross-functional collaboration with legal, compliance, and technical teams. - Mentorship experience in technical approaches. - Managing AI innovation projects from ideation to implementation. - Partnering with technology teams to scale and productionize : - Specializations in AI, ML, AI Governance, and Innovations using AI/ML.
