OPA - MECHANICAL ENGINEER. DUE 13.11.24
Full time, 6-month contract
Monday to Thursday - 08:00 - 16:30 & Friday 08:00 - 13:00
Remote with travel to sites (accommodation & travel fully funded)To act as a Technical Lead for the OPA Major Projects team in respect to Mechanical Engineering activities associated with the Major Projects currently ongoing across the OPA. Ensuring all mechanical engineering activities associated with design and delivery of the Major Projects are completed to full compliance with company standards and UK / European legislation.
Job Purpose:
With the responsibility for the oversight of all Mechanical Engineering activities from design to construction within the Capital Projects Team and/or engineering works associated with Capital Project delivery at any one time, the job entails overseeing professional contract engineers, consultant companies and construction teams, who conduct engineering activities on behalf of OPA. You will need to be able to demonstrate a proven experience of the design and construction of fuel storage tanks and process pipework. There will be a need to build strong credible working relationships with all internal stakeholders, in particular, other members of the delivery team, HSSEQ, and other engineering colleagues. These working relationships will also, need extending to external stakeholders such as the O&M Contractor, HSE, EA and our MOD Sponsors.
Key Duties:
Comply with the Fundamental Principles of the organisation in everyday activities.
Promote process safety leadership as the core of OPA's culture.
Be a key contributor to the Major Projects Team to meet the project and team objectives.
Ensure Mechanical Engineering activities completed within the Major Projects are fully compliant with company policies, procedures and legal requirements, particularly safety and ensuring safe systems of work.
Manage own time and resources to be compliant with the Working Time Regulations and meet responsibilities for health and safety.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with the key stakeholders, both internal and external.
Consistently maintain a professional approach in day to day activities.
Ensure effective and appropriate communication at all times.
Report on activities and provide relevant management information.
Maintain high standards of probity and confidentiality.
Knowledge/Skills:
A minimum of 5 years' experience as a disciplined Mechanical Engineer, working with onsite Engineering Projects Teams and contractors, to ensure modifications to equipment or the construction of new assets within an industrial environment are fully executed safely and to the required standards.
Solid understanding of good project management principles.
Has experience around coordination and delivery of multiple Civil Engineering Projects monitoring progress against time and budget.
Have extensive experience of leading direct and indirect technical engineering project teams engaged in the delivery of complex projects within demanding time quality and cost constraints.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with all stakeholders including the HSSEQ, O&M Contractor, HSE, EA and MOD Sponsors and other contractors / consultants.
Mechanical Engineering design and installation in a hazardous area process plant environment.
Ability to develop new ideas and solutions and have an awareness of current and emerging technologies.
Knowledge of relevant legislation around Mechanical Engineering (API, EEMUA etc) but also to include to MOC (Management of Change) COMAH and CDM.
Provide planning budget forecasts for Mechanical Engineering Projects ready for submission to the leadership Team for approval.
Strong understanding of engineering principles associated with mechanical engineering design
Able to demonstrate management/people relationship skills, in particular team and contractor management.
Excellent communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills
Knowledge of AutoCAD, Design ability and Microsoft Office
Either IOSH Managing or NEBOSH qualified.
NEC Contractor Awareness (Preferable NEC 3)
Basic awareness of BREAM and BIM
Able to demonstrate management/people relationship skills, in particular team and contractor management.
