About the team?
You will be working for the Revenue Recovery Department. The team is highly successful and is industry leading in the way it identifies areas for continuous improvement in the delivery of our Revenue Protection and Anti-Fraud functions. The work includes internal performance reporting that is relied upon by several cross functional management teams, and detailed data analysis which is used to identify areas where our revenue is at risk from fare evasion and fraud.
About the job?
The purpose of the role is to lead the Revenue Protection Data Standards and Fraud Analysis team, ensuring the delivery of visual dashboards and KPIs which measure the performance of over 1,400 individuals across multiple teams in the on-board and stations functions. This information is used to drive individual and team performance, in addition to guiding business decisions. The role holder will also use the results of externally performed ticketless travel surveys to identify areas for future analysis.
You will also ensure that the data and other sources of intelligence are used to help us proactively drive the counter fraud function.

About the location?
This role can be remote, hybrid or on-site depending on how you work best. The team is based in Vastern House, Reading. You need to be able to travel to Reading occasionally and there may be a need to travel to other parts of the GWR network from time to time.

Full time, 37 hours per week. If you need flexibility away from the traditional 9-5 working pattern, we can discuss how this can be accommodated.

Your main responsibilities will be:
- Lead | engage in key data-led short-term and long-term Revenue Protection projects
- Engage with management to fulfil urgent data requests with short turn-around times
- Take ownership of the Revenue Protection & Revenue Recovery datasets, identifying areas for continuous improvement.
- Manage the roles of both the Revenue Protection & Fraud Analysts, ensuring KPIs are set and achieved.
- Write reports for distribution to senior management regarding ticketless travel and revenue protection performance.
- Work with the management team within the Revenue Recovery Department to develop periodic datasets for performance monitoring.
- Manage transition of the Department into the world of AI | Machine Learning
- Coaching | Managing a team of 2 Analysts
- Engage in making key decisions involving External I.T. Vendors
You'll need to be:
- Able to work on your own and as part of a team delivering personal and department objectives.
- A good communicator with fantastic two-way communication skills, confident with your knowledge, who can work with colleagues at all levels.
- Able to identify anomalies in datasets and ensure accuracy when preparing reports and checking work of others.
- Able to build strong relationships both with internal and external stakeholders.
- Willing to share your knowledge to help develop others within the team, whilst identifying areas to develop yourself.
- Someone who has a desire to make improvements to existing systems and processes, be ready to lead by example and set high standards.
As a minimum you will need to have experience in:
- The Power BI Suite including but not limited to: Power BI Desktop | Power Query | Power Automate | Dataflows, etc
- Data modelling, data design and data structure for enterprise reporting & performance monitoring
- SQL to query and manage databases within Snowflake
- Power query & Data Analysis Expressions (DAX)
- Power BI service to manage access Controls | Row-Level Security | Workspace Management; etc.
- The Ability to connect and integrate various data sources
- Troubleshooting and problem solving
- Building Compelling Corporate Reports | Visuals using Power BI And/or MS Excel
- A keen interest in revenue protection, and knowledge of team structures is desirable
- Some understanding of AI & Machine Learning. An understanding of Slowly Changing Dimension Type 2 principles
- Not essential, but nice to have, knowledge of the GWR branding guidelines to ensure that reports that are distributed are correctly branded
