Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer on a permanent basis, located in the North West
Role Summary
As a Senior Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems within buildings. You will provide technical expertise, guidance, and leadership to the design team, ensuring that mechanical designs meet project requirements, adhere to industry standards, and comply with applicable regulations.
This role requires extensive experience in mechanical engineering and building services design, as well as strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
Key Responsibilities:
* Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and designers, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure project success and professional development.
* Design Development: Lead the development of detailed mechanical designs for building services systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, security, and communication systems, utilizing advanced engineering principles and methodologies.
* Project Management: Manage multiple projects simultaneously, from concept design through construction administration, ensuring that deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
* Client Interaction: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders, providing technical expertise, resolving complex engineering issues, and maintaining strong client relationships.
* CAD Drafting: Review and approve mechanical drawings, schematics, and layouts created by the design team, ensuring accuracy, compliance with design standards, and adherence to project requirements.
* Technical Analysis: Perform advanced mechanical calculations, load analysis, voltage drop calculations, and system modeling to optimize the performance, efficiency, and reliability of mechanical systems.
* Equipment Selection: Oversee the selection of mechanical equipment, fixtures, and components, ensuring that selections meet project specifications, performance requirements, and budget constraints.
* Code Compliance: Ensure that mechanical designs comply with all relevant building codes, regulations, and industry standards, including NEC (National Mechanical Code), IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), and local mechanical codes.
* Documentation: Review and approve comprehensive technical specifications, reports, and documentation related to mechanical designs, including equipment schedules, wiring diagrams, and installation instructions.
* Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough reviews and quality checks of mechanical designs and deliverables, identifying and addressing any discrepancies, errors, or omissions to ensure the highest quality standards.
* Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges associated with mechanical designs, and develop proactive strategies to mitigate risks, minimize project disruptions, and ensure successful project outcomes.
* Continuing Education: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and changes in codes and standards through continuous learning, professional development activities, and participation in industry associations.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
* Professional engineering licensure (PE) required.
* Extensive experience in mechanical engineering and building services design, including a track record of successfully leading and managing complex projects.
* Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and mentor engineering teams.
* Expertise in advanced mechanical engineering analysis tools and software, including power system analysis software, lighting design software, and building energy modelling tools.
* Thorough understanding of mechanical codes, standards, and regulations, including NEC, IEC, and local mechanical codes.
* Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
