Job Description

This fascinating auditors role will place you in the heart of the largest rail projects in the UK. The Technical Assurance Auditor (TAA) role at involves leading Technical Assurance Reviews (TARs) to ensure the supply chain adheres to contractual and compliance requirements across multiple disciplines, including the Main Works Civils Contractors (MWCC), Main Works Services Contractors (MWSC), Rail Systems (RS), Network Rail (OWN), and Non-contestable Utilities (NCUs). This position requires overseeing the audit process to verify compliance with the client’s stringent processes and procedures, and quality management processes, including ISO 9001:2015, as well as assessing the deliverables’ alignment with project objectives. The TAA will conduct a number of audits annually, focusing on continuous improvement through quarterly audits for primary contractors. The role requires creating detailed audit question sets, leading pre-audit activities (such as notification, look-aheads, and response evaluation), and documenting findings to support root cause analysis in partnership by the client’s Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) “and then providing the supply chain the opportunity to demonstrate compliance through documented evidence.”

This position demands strong knowledge of rail systems and railway systems, as a deep understanding of terminology, processes, procedures, and compliance standards is essential. The TAA will collaborate with contractors and designers, applying technical expertise to validate the planning and execution stages across the design, construction, and life cycle phases of contracts. TARs will initially address high-level planning requirements before progressing to focus on design compliance and, ultimately, on construction issues. The TAA will not be responsible for certifying compliance but will provide opportunities for supply chain partners to demonstrate it through documented evidence. Proactive problem-solving, attention to contractual detail, and a strategic approach to continuous improvement are vital for success in this role. Thus an understanding of various railway systems such as power, signalling, stations, track if helpful. However a background from within other construction and engineering sectors would work well including areas such as Nuclear, Highways and Utilities. A working knowledge of relevant regulations, such as the CDM Regulations 2015, and experience in managing assurance processes for multi-disciplinary programmes will support success in this role.

The project is moving towards the systems suppliers, and thus you would be a part of their onboarding and adaptation to this clients processes and procedures. You would therefore work with and audit some of the major industry suppliers as they move into a new manner of working.

The salary shown is for London, you can also undertake this role from Birmingham ( slightly different details )
