Job Description
Senior Optical Systems Engineer - South West England
Leading photonics company seeks a Senior Optical Systems Engineer to join our R&D team. You'll develop cutting-edge fiber optic components, high-power optical amplifiers, and optical transmitter sub-systems across multiple markets.
The role is hybrid although fully remote UK based candidates will be considered
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and develop optical/fiber-optic components and subsystems
* Lead a small technical team
* Participate in prototype build & test
* Collaborate with mechanical and electronic design engineers
* Manage key project budgets and timelines
Requirements:
* Degree in Engineering or Physics (PhD preferred)
* Experience in high-power fiber lasers/amplifiers, non-linear optics, or photonic integrated circuits
* Knowledge of fiber-optic and free-space transmission systems
* Team leadership experience
* Strong problem-solving abilities
* Limited travel (<5%)
