POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Nursing assumes responsibility, authority and accountability for the delivery of clinical support staff and ancillary services throughout all clinics and service facilities of Central Florida Health Care.
MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Requires 80% or more time spent standing/walking
2. Independently mobile
3. Ability to lift weight equivalents to what would be required when occasionally assisting and positioning patients, repositioning equipment and lifting supplies

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Nursing assumes responsibility, authority and accountability for the delivery of clinical support staff and ancillary services throughout all clinics and service facilities of Central Florida Health Care.
MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Nurse in the state of Florida
- Master's degree in public health preferred
- Clinical nursing leadership experience required
- Preferred experience in ambulatory care and Joint Commission accredited facility
- Familiarity with the FQHC model and reporting requirements preferred
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
- Computer Skills: E-mail, internet, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), practice management and electronic health record software, preferably Athena
- Other requirements: Able to work flexible hours and travel to each clinic
- Ensure clinics are Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and Joint Commission compliant with policies and procedures including ambulatory care and PCMH standards
- Approve and maintain equipment, supply, and medication/vaccine formularies within specified procurement vendors, as well as review potential medications/vaccines, supplies and equipment for in-office use
- Review in-office medication and vaccine changes with Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee
- Review in-office medication, vaccine, and supply costs with Director of Revenue Cycle for charge master and sliding fee scale updates
- Open new departments/clinics, procuring medical equipment and supplies
- Add and maintain vaccine and lab temperature monitoring system for all clinics
- Add and maintain med room medication waste pickup for all clinics
- Add and maintain LabCorp, Quest, or other laboratory processing vendor for all clinics
- Add and maintain Department of Health Radiology licensing for all clinics with x-ray
- Add and maintain Vaccine for Children (VFC) Program for state funded vaccines for all pediatric clinics
- Create and maintain clinical competencies and provide subject matter for computer-based training for clinical support staff and ancillary services
- Provide periodic trainings to staff and providers to improve clinical care and clinical programming with the greater goal of improving quality of services and patient satisfaction, patient safety, and risk management
- Work with Chief Quality Officer/Risk Manager (CQO/RM) to understand UDS clinical quality measures and propose improvements to patient care to positively impact the results
- Utilize electronic health record to pull data, analyze the data and create reports to drive performance improvement
- Responsible for periodic audits of medical documentation and clinical processes across the organization to critically assess for adherence to policies and reporting results of audits to the management team in a timely manner
- Analyzes data for patterns and trends in care delivery; works on discovering root causes for specific patient care trends
- Attend appropriate clinical and operational meetings
- Attend networking events to focus on building relationships with community leaders that can assist the organization in meeting set goals and objectives
- Provide assistance to nurse managers and clinical training and development for all newly hired clinical support staff for completion of orientation and competencies. (Theory orientation to include the clinical policies and procedures and Joint Commission or federal grant requirements that involve clinical support staff. Practical orientation to include assessment of all clinical skills that employee will be expected to perform on a routine basis)
- Cooperates with supervisory staff in performing periodic assessments to determine deficiencies in nursing performance at all sites and examining employee relations
- Performance evaluation of nurse managers is to include but is not limited to: log keeping, Environment of Care (EOC) rounds, inventories, staff competencies, and policy and procedure adherence (universal precautions, consent forms, needle disposal, identification and proper disposal of expired medications, patient identification, etc.) in conjunction with HCA
- Evaluate nurse managers and clinical support staff in performance of periodic, random medical record review at least quarterly using standardized auditing process and provide summary report to supervisor
- Evaluate process for monitoring of in-house medications for utilization and expiration, vaccine use and inventories (VFC, 340B, and private stock)
- Monitor professional education activities of clinical support staff and/or arrange for training. Schedule nursing staff for 501 (HIV counseling) re-certification as appropriate
- Review all nurse manager applications and resumes and conduct applicant interviews in conjunction with Health Center Administrator (HCA)
- Perform annual review and update of clinical policies and procedures
- Responsible for keeping the clinical support staff current on laws of the profession
- Assist with counseling sessions with clinical support staff for disciplinary action as required
- Consult with providers regarding issues involving the clinical support staff
- Conduct monthly meetings directly with nurse managers and staff
- Keep supervisor and other senior leadership informed of all clinical support issues (except minor day to day matters) including any proposed policy or procedural changes, disciplinary actions, problems with providers, etc.
- Act as a liaison between the clinical department, call center, mobile unit, referrals, finance, human resources, MIS, medical, behavioral health, dental, pharmacy or administrative staff
- Assist CMO in determining clinical support staffing requirements
- Recommend that clinical support staff attend appropriate continuing education courses, workshops, etc.; review requests from clinical support staff; collect written course summaries if needed
- Meet with center teams and management as required, establish meeting schedule to update appropriate staff of changes or problem-solving solutions
