Senior Staff Accountant


Midwest Holding LLC. , a rapidly growing financial services holding company, is seeking a highly analytical, hands on, and energetic individual to join their Team as Senior Staff Accountant. We operate as a modern technology-enabled, insurance holding company focused on long-term growth, and to advance the insurance value chain through products and services that focus on reduced costs and increased customer value. Our objective is to leverage state of the art technology, product-development and administrative capabilities, and relationships and reputation, to create, sell, and administer life and annuity products through third party independent marketing organizations.


Summary/Objective

The Senior Staff Accountant will be responsible for utilizing accounting theory and GAAP to prepare, assist, and analyze a wide range of accounting and financial assignments.


Essential Functions

  • Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules in a timely manner
  • Facilitate and complete monthly and year end procedures
  • Analyze revenues, expenses and statistics regularly to ensure accuracy
  • Prepare weekly and monthly account reconciliations
  • Complete any investment accounting related tasks, including investment specific journal entries, account reconciliations, etc.
  • Assist with analyzing financial statements, identifying and resolving variances
  • Assist with audit and reporting activities and requests
  • Research complex accounting, reporting and transactional matters as they arise
  • Maintain fixed assets and associated depreciation schedules
  • Ensure proper documentation and monitoring of internal controls
  • Assist with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activities
  • Assist with General Ledger accounting and reconciliations
  • Develop accounting and financial procedure documents as needed, establishing accounting procedures for assigned tasks
  • Provide ongoing support for partners across the organization for accounting, reporting, and investment requirements and tasks
  • Build and maintain transaction files
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and communicate with others. This may be over the phone, in person, or through email and messaging. The employee must be able to hear customers and agents over the phone. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand; walk, and use their hands and fingers to work with the computer, phones, filing cabinets, paperwork, etc.


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours as needed in order to complete tasks and meet deadlines.


Travel

No travel is expected for this position.


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5+ years of solid accounting experience, preferably within the insurance industry
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP and accounting foundations
  • CPA Preferred


Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be eligible to work in the United States.
