Accounts Assistant

Location: Enfield, EN3 7FJ
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Accounts Assistant to join our growing Finance team at our Head Office in Enfield.
This role will primarily support our finance department by managing day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring invoices and payments are processed efficiently, and resolving any discrepancies.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with internal teams, including our yard, and external suppliers. They will also be interested in having long term career in finance.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Duties:
* Invoice Processing: Printing a high volume of invoices, matching them to delivery notes and posting them accurately and on time.
* Invoice Queries: Communicate with suppliers and the yard team to resolve issues related to purchase order numbers, rates, and quantities.
* Delivery Notes: Request signed delivery notes to ensure accurate invoice postings.
* Inbox Management: You will need to keep up to date with the inbox ensuring emails are sorted and actioned timely/correctly.
* Account Reconciliation: Reconcile accounts and investigate any discrepancies with suppliers, collaborating with the yard team, as necessary.
* Payment Processing: Process supplier payments in line with company procedures and payment terms.
* Ad Hoc Support: Assist with additional duties as required, particularly responding to requests from the yard team.
* Assisting the Financial Manager: Following up on requests to aid in the reporting of statutory accounts and internal management reports.
* Supplier Relationships: To maintain and build relationships with our active suppliers.
Key Skills:
* Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
* Proficient in accounting software such as Sage and good knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
* Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications:
* AAT Level 2 or equivalent accounting qualification (desirable).
* Strong foundation in basic bookkeeping principles (essential).
* GCSEs in Maths and English (minimum requirement Grade 5).
Personal Attributes:
* Inquisitive Mindset: A natural curiosity to ask questions and probe into discrepancies, finding root causes of variances or issues.
* Problem-Solving Skills: Adept at identifying issues within accounts or processes and suggesting possible solutions.
* Attention to Detail: Ability to spot inconsistencies in financial data, invoices, and accounts.
* Analytical Approach: Comfortable analysing figures and documents to draw conclusions or resolve queries.
* Resilient and Adaptable: Ability to manage queries with persistence, especially when resolving complex issues.
* Integrity and Confidentiality: Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality with financial information.
Desirable Qualities:
* Keen interest in continuously improving accounting processes and finding efficiencies.
* Strong initiative to independently research issues or improvements before escalating them.
* Proactive in following up on pending issues or tasks to completion.
