Full Stack Developer (Java)


Role Overview


We are seeking an experienced and talented Full Stack Developer (Java) to work closely with the NICOR (National Institute for Cardiovascular Outcomes Research) team. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for acting as a lead within the development team, providing specialist knowledge within the field of Java software development, systems architecture, design and solution implementation. This will include creating new applications, extending core functionality of the framework and third line user support This is an exciting opportunity to use your technical expertise to make a real impact on patient care and health outcomes across the UK.


Role Scope:


  • Full time hours - 37.5 per week.
  • A permanent opportunity.
  • A remote work schedule with occasional office days for team meetings.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Design, develop and maintain full-stack applications using Java and related technologies to support NICOR’s cardiovascular research databases and tools.
  • Test developed software to identify possible bottlenecks and faults and devise the most appropriate technical approach for resolving a particular problem and solutions to these problems.
  • Provide timely third line support to teams liaising directly with end users to resolve issues.
  • Act as the technical expert and provide advice, implementation strategies and undertake technical decisions as required.
  • Translate any technical issues in an articulate manner to the wider team including clinicians and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely delivery and overall quality of the optimal technical solution to meet business and stakeholder requirements. This will include performance, quality, and responsiveness of the applications developed.


Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:


  • Master’s degree in computer science or relevant experience.
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge in Java development with Associate Oracle Java Certification/ qualification (Java SE8 Programmer) or equivalent
  • Significant experience as a Full Stack Developer with strong expertise in Java and associated frameworks.
  • Proficient in Java and developing complex software solutions with demonstrable experience of its ecosystems and the core APIs, in particular JEE (JPA, JMS, Java Security, JaxWS/RS, JavaXML, JNDI etc).
  • Proven experience from any of the following frameworks: Twitter Bootstrap, JS Charts, Highcharts, Wicket, Axon, RestEasy, JMS/Apache Camel, JSON/XML
  • Experience in writing JUnit test cases
  • Demonstrable experience in developing responsive web applications for diverse platforms.
  • Experience of Agile software development methodologies e.g Scrum and Spring Framework (core, DAO, security, data).
  • Proven experience of Angular (latest versions preferred).
  • Can write clean, readable Java code according to pragmatic praxis.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • A passion for leveraging technology to improve healthcare outcomes and patient care.
