An international conglomerate that operates predominantly within the heavy industries sector is currently seeking a Sole Counsel to take over from the existing Counsel and help further develop the legal function in Europe. Reporting into the Global General Counsel in South America, the role will primarily support the European business on all commercial and corporate legal issues and will also report into the European MD.

The Legal function in Europe has been established over the last 4 – 5 years and there is now an opportunity for an enthusiastic mid-level lawyer to step up into a wide ranging role with real access to the management team structure of the established European division of a large multinational. Beyond the typical Corporate/Commercial work there will be opportunity to shape legal workflows in IP, Compliance, Employment, Property, Disputes etc. as well as managing the external legal budget and Counsel.

What’s on offer?

This role would ideally suit a mid-level lawyer looking for a step up in scope and responsibility from Legal Counsel/Senior Counsel level to take ownership of a multi-jurisdictional function and work closely with the business and management team in navigating legal risk and assessing business opportunity.

The role is designed to be hybrid (face-time in the headquarters, based just outside the M25 South East of London, will be important initially as you build relationships in the business and a more flexible/remote work set up can follow as per your own, and business, needs).

A provisional budget has been set of around £90,000 + significant bonus potential (DOE).

About you

Strong foundational experience in Corporate/Commercial law is required (expertise in a broader range of areas including those listed above would be advantageous but not essential). Equally, previous experience within Heavy Industries or Energy is useful but not a pre-requisite.

Prior experience working in South America or with South American businesses/clients is extremely advantageous and lawyers qualified in South American jurisdictions are strongly encouraged to apply (currently the business is not in a position to sponsor applications so you will need to already have right to work in the UK).
