What we're looking for:

Nexamp is growing their Commercial & Industrial (C&I) solar project development team and is seeking to hire a Project Developer. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of solar energy distributed generation and/or utility scale solar project development experience. You will lead the origination and development of behind-the-meter and front-of-the-meter rooftop, carport and energy storage systems, as well as onsite behind-the-meter onsite ground mounted projects, across the Midwest, and initially in IL. Projects sizes will range from 1- 20 MW. You will have an understanding of how to read and interpret future clean energy policy to develop projects based on market opportunity.

You will be hybrid out of the Chicago office, and will be expected to travel up to 60% across IL. You will report to the VP, Business Development.

What you'll do:

  • Responsible for all phases of solar &/or energy storage project development, from origination to start of construction.
  • Lead site origination, site control negotiations, project permitting, utility interconnection, program acceptance or revenue support and any other project development needs.
  • Crafting a compelling value proposition for behind-the-meter systems that reflects avoided cost, load profile, applicable tariffs, and layered revenue streams.
  • Close coordination with junior business development staff to develop and implement effective lead campaign strategies.
  • Development of long-term relationships with property owners, energy users and other project stakeholders.
  • Effective communication with project stakeholders and community members to facilitate project permitting and other initiatives.
  • Monitoring of state clean energy policy, and project opportunities, including but not limited to, Public and Private RFP's
  • Fostering support from state, county and local governments, community groups and project abutters.
  • Management of external consultants as needed in conjunction with land acquisition, engineering and permitting activities.
  • Active management of development schedule and budget to ensure timely and cost-effective solutions.
  • Support of internal finance, engineering, and construction teams to facilitate successful project financing and construction.
  • Development of sales presentations, proposals and other materials as needed to support project development efforts.
  • Up to 60% travel is required; some evening and weekend work required.
What you'll bring:
  • Three or more years of energy industry experience in a business development role, with a successful track record in solar project development within either rooftop or ground mounted, and either behind-the meter, or front of the meter project development
  • Previous experience in development and integration of PV and/or energy storage systems.
  • Commercial real estate prospecting and business model understanding.
  • Effective project lead, team leader and collaborator.
  • Understanding of legal contracting and developing commercial terms between counterparties
  • Ability to foresee next steps in a solar project development cycle, and present development plan to manager on a regular basis.
  • Familiarity with permitting processes and other market-specific parameters
  • Familiarity with local, state and federal solar policies and program mechanics (as applicable)
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating information, ideas, and perspectives with people inside and beyond your organization.
  • Ability to ask appropriate questions, analyze data, identify the root causes of problems, and present creative solutions.
  • Expertise in building strong internal and external relationships with customers and stakeholders, instilling trust and loyalty across the industry.
  • Eagerness to develop a fundamental understanding of how Nexamp operates and then apply that knowledge effectively to inform business decisions.
  • Experience in showcasing initiative to make improvements to current work, processes, products, and services across the organization. We value accountability and an ownership mentality.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
