Deputy Manager – Residential Care Home
Location: North London
Service User Group: Elderly & Dementia Care Home
Job Type: Full-time (40 hours per week, Monday – Sunday across five shifts)
Salary: Circa £34,000.
Responsible to: Registered Manager
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Deputy Manager to join a well-established residential care home in North London. The home, with a CQC "Good" rating, provides specialist care to elderly residents, including those living with dementia. The Deputy Manager will support the Registered Manager in overseeing daily operations, ensuring high-quality care and compliance with Health and Social Care regulations.
Key Responsibilities
As Deputy Manager, you will play a crucial role in the day-to-day running of the home, focusing on the following areas:
1. Safeguarding and Risk Management
Ensure residents are protected from harm and abuse.
Oversee risk assessments (e.g., mobility, behaviour, hygiene) and ensure appropriate support is in place.
Manage the medication process, ensuring correct administration, recording, and returns.
Conduct safety checks (fire, legionella, nurse call systems).
Supervise the Deprivation of Liberty (DoL) processes and complete mental capacity assessments.
2. Quality of Care
Support the recruitment and mentoring of new care staff.
Monitor and improve the quality of service delivery.
Encourage social activities and community engagement for residents.
Ensure care plans are regularly reviewed and updated in response to individual needs.
3. Staff Development and Support
Provide leadership and guidance to the care team, ensuring staff have the skills and confidence to deliver high-quality care.
Conduct regular supervisions and mentoring to develop staff competencies.
Chair staff meetings, addressing concerns and implementing service improvements.
4. Resident and Family Engagement
Involve residents and families in decision-making regarding care and treatment.
Create a positive, caring atmosphere that respects residents’ dignity and privacy.
Chair meetings with residents and families to gather feedback and implement changes based on their input.
5. Regulatory Compliance
Ensure the service meets the requirements of the Health and Social Care Act and other relevant regulations.
Maintain an open and transparent culture, supporting continuous improvements based on CQC inspections and feedback.

Candidate Requirements
* NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (completed or enrolled)
* Proven experience in a senior role (Deputy Manager or similar) within a residential care setting, preferably with elderly and dementia care.
* Sound knowledge of CQC regulations and relevant legislation.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
* Ability to operate care management software for staff, medication, and service users.
