Job Description
Associate Highway Design Engineer
Location: London or Basingstoke
£70,000 to £95,000+package
Our client is a specialist, independent transport planning consultancy with offices all over the UK.
This company specialise in providing transport planning advice to the development sector for both private and public-sector clients.
For an Associate / Associate Highway Design Engineer role, they would be expected to assist coordinating design activities across all our offices and improve the design capability of existing staff through training and mentoring.
An ability to challenge conventional design criteria and work within the constraints of development projects to deliver innovative cost effective solutions for our clients is essential.

What do you need to be applicable for the role:
You will be Degree (or equivalent) educated in Civil Engineering, or similar; and you will have significant work related experience in the field of design on UK highways and be Chartered (CEng) or an Incorporated member (IEng) of the ICE, CIHT or similar.
They would be able to undertake design work and lead design teams with minimal supervision, taking a lead design/project management role.
The role will include responsibility for project management, planning and managing the delivery of projects and ensuring the adequacy of design and compliance with standards and legislation.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate significant technical capability in areas such as junction design and road alignment and will have the following skills and experience:
Comprehensive knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and Manual for Streets;
Technical supervision of design activities, checking and design reviews, including preparation of designs and drawings in accordance with technical design standards;
Use of modelling and engineering related packages such as AutoCAD, including Civils 3D;
Preparation of technical reports;
Experience of UK Statutory procedures particularly the s278/s38 process;
Undertake feasibility design cost estimates;
Demonstrable understanding of Health and Safety and Environmental Legislation including CDM;
Be able to demonstrate clear and successful project management skills and technical competence in the field of highway engineering;
Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to push the boundaries of existing knowledge and the ability to take the lead outside of core discipline;
Discussion and negotiation with highway authorities;
Providing technical guidance and knowledge to more junior staff.
Commercial awareness and providing technical guidance to private sector clients;
Effective planning and organising skills and able to work under nominal supervision and to lead at the appropriate level;
Proven track record of dealing with clients and forging effective relationships in a professional and customer focused manner;
Good written and oral communication skills are essential
