Linux Kernel Developer | Berlin | €90k

My client who are a highly specialised company working across a wide range of industries including electric vehicles, medical devices and even robotics are looking for an Embedded Linux Kernel Developer.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain kernel and driver software for various processors and hardware platforms.
• Engage in hardware-related development, creating specialized methods, libraries, and tools.
• Conduct system analysis and draft specifications in collaboration with clients.
• Configure and integrate embedded Linux systems and potentially industrial Android systems.
• Design and implement middleware services for networked devices.
• Port legacy or proprietary functions and protocols to new systems.
• Perform module and system testing, code reviews, and create system documentation.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Communications Engineering or a related field with relevant professional experience.
• Extensive experience with Linux, particularly in low-level areas such as kernel development, driver creation, system libraries, POSIX functions, and syscalls.
• Strong understanding of processor architectures (ARM, x86), cross-compilation, cross-debugging, package management, and network protocols.
• Solid grasp of digital circuitry and microprocessor systems, with experience in reading and interpreting datasheets and circuit diagrams.
• Proficiency in C, with solid knowledge of C++, ARM assembly, and shell scripting.
• Familiarity with embedded Linux distributions like Yocto Project (BitBake), Buildroot, PTXdist, or ELinOS.
• Experience with GNU (cross-)toolchain, Make, Git, and open-source licensing.
• Ideally, experience in areas like Secure Boot, boot time optimization, real-time extensions, hypervisors, and Linux containerization (LXC).
• Proficiency in German and English, both written and spoken (at least B2 level).
