Quantity Surveyor – Retail Fit-Out Projects
Location: Cambridgeshire
Salary: £75,000
We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to manage the commercial aspects of high-value, repeat business retail fit-out projects. This position requires a proactive approach within a fast-paced environment, where a “can-do” attitude is essential. You will be responsible for overseeing budgets, valuations, and contract management from project initiation through to final accounts, playing a pivotal role in ensuring financial performance and strong relationships with both clients and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
*
Budget and Financial Management: Take ownership of project budgets and forecasts, ensuring strict financial control and maintaining profitability across all stages of the project lifecycle.
*
Client and Supplier Relations: Build and maintain robust commercial relationships with clients and suppliers, leading meetings and ensuring client satisfaction with project delivery.
*
Project Compliance: Uphold best practices in project governance in alignment with company policies and procedures, ensuring quality and compliance throughout.
*
Procurement and Contract Administration: Oversee procurement of trade packages, supplier selection, and subcontract ordering. Ensure all suppliers have clear direction, necessary orders, and competency to deliver their work.
*
Site Visits and Project Progress: Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, assess supplier performance, and ensure alignment with project expectations.
*
Valuations and Financial Reporting: Prepare and submit valuations, manage client and supplier accounts, and oversee final accounts and retention releases. Ensure timely payment receipt and maintain accurate, current financial reporting.

Cost and Value Management: Develop and track contract budgets, providing ongoing cost/value comparisons to optimise project profitability.
*
Issue Resolution and Negotiation: Proactively identify and resolve issues, using effective negotiation to secure favourable terms and project outcomes.

Support Future Projects: Assist with estimates and negotiations for upcoming projects or phases, contributing to company growth and client satisfaction.

Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear interaction with clients, project teams, and suppliers.

Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in managing budgets, contracts, and reporting.

Problem Solving and Negotiation: Ability to identify issues early and resolve them through effective negotiation and conflict resolution.

Collaborative Team Player: Strong team player, working closely with project teams to achieve shared objectives.

IT and Software Proficiency: Proficient in MS Office and cost management systems, with an aptitude for learning new tools as needed.
Experience & Qualifications
*
Experience: At least 5 years in construction, specifically in a Quantity Surveying role.
*
Education: Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
*
Industry Knowledge: Background in retail and leisure construction projects is advantageous, along with knowledge of construction technology and the JCT contract suite.
*
Certifications: CSCS card, with experience in Schedules of Rates (SOR) and contract administration.
