Silicon Photonics Engineer

Job Description
A London based developer of new disruptive optical networking technologies is now looking for a Senior Silicon Photonics Engineer.
As a Senior Silicon Photonic Engineer, you will apply your knowledge and experience to design, implement and test PICs for optical communication networks.
You will design, develop, and test iterative product prototypes to get a product manufactured.
You will have the opportunity to innovate at both component and system level. This role will include hands-on design, simulation, testing, and closely interfacing with fabrication and packaging teams and vendors.
You will work closely with the fabrication team and external manufacturing partners for component design, process integration, and performance monitoring.
Through your developments you will contribute to the expansion of the IP portfolio through patent filing.
Experience:
Ideally you should have a minimum of 5 years industrial experience in the design and optimization of silicon/III-V photonic devices and photonic integrated circuits. Your experience will include tape out with photonics foundries.
Your strong understanding of planar waveguide optics should include passive components such as waveguides, multiplexers/demultiplexers, tapers, couplers and active such as detectors, modulators, SOAs and lasers.
A good understanding of CMOS manufacturing process steps and constraints on the design of photonic devices is essential.
You should be proficient with development and simulation packages, mainstream photonic components and systems simulation and layout packages such as Lumerical, Synopsis RSoft, IPKISS, RF/SI simulation and optimization, Python and scripting languages.
You should be proficient with complex optoelectronic lab testing techniques and equipment, necessary to validate designs, including high-speed detectors, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, precision positioning setups.
Qualifications:
As the successful Senior Silicon Photonics Engineer, you should have achieved a Ph.D. with research in silicon photonics or BEng/MSc on relevant subjects.
