Our Mission, Vision, and Values guide the way we do business.If this sounds like an environment where you can thrive, keep reading!Leidos is seeking a Marine Project Coordinator to serve as a senior Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) staff member at sea ensuring National Science Foundation (NSF) policies and international laws pertaining to science work are followed and enforced.*** Deployment to Antarctica will be required for this position. The candidate in the position must complete the physical and dental examinations required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica. ***This position will be located on a research vessel for -4 months per year. The standard work schedule for this position while on the vessel is 84 hours per week. (Monday through Sunday, 12 hours per day.)Due to contract requirements, US Citizenship is required.Must obtain a Public Trust security clearance prior to start date. This process could take up to 4 months.Your greatest work is ahead!About the Antarctic Support Contract:Leidos Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) is the prime contractor to the National Science Foundation (NSF) in support of the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). Leidos supports the NSF's Office of Polar Program's Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics by aligning with their Mission and Vision Statements:
  • Vision:Expanding our scientific reach in Antarctica through increased operational and logistical effectiveness.
  • Mission:To provide the operational and logistical platform necessary for the U.S. to conduct world-class science in Antarctica and maintain its active and influential presence on the continent.Leidos ASC provides science and logistics support for approximately 150 science and technical events across three geographically remote research stations; McMurdo Station, Palmer Station, and South Pole Station and several deep field sites across Antarctica. Each station or field site supports world class research across multiple science disciplines.     • Serve as the primary contact on the ship interfacing with ASC management, NSF stakeholders and foreign governments regarding science project personnel and logistics.
    • Responsible for all aspects of the ASC functions on board the ASC-contracted research vessels.
    • Monitors onboard the vessel the charter agreement for the research vessels on behalf of ASC.
    • Oversees proper use and maintenance of NSF equipment on the ship.
    • Coordinates, manages and directs all aspects of the shipboard program, including safety orientation for all new personnel.
    • Without direct oversight develops onsite contingency planning to ensure ship adheres to program schedules and other issues that arise at sea and during port calls often working with foreign country representatives and dignitaries.
    • Works directly with the Ship's Master and Chief Scientist to plan and execute the science plan overseeing the activities of approximately 25 scientists.
    • Provides hands-on leadership and directs the 24-hour operations of approximately 10 ASC staff members (primarily subcontractors) aboard the vessel to meet science objectives safely.
    • Directly responsible for tracking and documenting a variety of cruise data including crew lists, custom documents, training rosters, procurement's, Antarctic environmental occurrences, subcontractor performance and pay, accident reporting, and shipping manifests with supporting logistics documents for movement of science samples and equipment internationally.What Sets You Apart:
      • Bachelor's Degree in Marine Transportation, Nautical Science, and at least four (4+) years work experience in the marine science industry; additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
      • One (1+) year of supervisory experience.
      • At least two (2+) years commercial sailing, previous experience on research vessels or other applicable career experience.
      • Background in ship operations or marine operations.You May Also Have:
        • Experience in leadership positions aboard ships at sea.
        • Leadership/management training; small group facilitation and problem solving.
        • Ability to speak and read Spanish.
        • US Merchant Marine Officers License or able-bodied Seaman document issued by United States Coast Guard.
        • Academic research vessel experience and experience working in Antarctica.Original Posting Date:2024-11-19While subject to change based on business needs, Leidos reasonably anticipates that this job requisition will remain open for at least 3 days with an anticipated close date of no earlier than 3 days after the original posting date as listed above.Pay Range:Pay Range $68,900.00 - $124,550.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
