Management Accountant

The post holder will be expected to adhere consistently to the Finance Team's standardised financial processes. Standard processes will be developed for all key areas including, but not limited to, budget monitoring, budget setting and closure of accounts.
Corporate:

- To work effectively as part of the council's finance & resources directorate, delivering corporate objectives through the work of the finance service.
- To work with key stakeholders in improving service quality and promoting creative and innovative ways of tackling local problems, ensuring services delivered meet the needs of our community and are accessible for all users.
- To work with other officers to ensure services are integrated at the point of delivery and at the strategic planning level and to identify new opportunities for business efficiencies
- To support organisational change, ensuring that appropriate systems of performance and development, communication, equality measures, monitoring and review are in place.
- To adhere to the council values

Knowledge and Experience:

- Achieved or working towards a CCAB or equivalent qualification with relevant work experience.
- Knowledge of local authority accounting requirements and ability to implement them accordingly. Knowledge of local government funding and finance issues and being able to demonstrate how this impacts and affects the council.
- Knowledge of VAT, taxation, financial system and internal controls.
- Competent in the use of information technology, in particular word and Excel-based applications, financial IT systems that support the financial management and control of the organisation.
- Experience of the budget setting, monitoring and closing processes.
- Experience of creating and developing simple financial models and analysis tools to assist service managers in effective financial management.
- Experience of providing effective training to financial and non-financial staff with the aim of enabling them to follow processes and understand the implications of their decisions.
