Job Description


We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Associate Electrical Engineer with a strong background in electrical engineering, specifically within the Data Centre sector. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in technical design, client liaison, and project management. This role is ideal for an experienced professional looking to take on a leadership position, contributing to high-profile projects and working closely with a diverse client base.


Key Responsibilities


  • Technical Design & Delivery: Lead the design and development of electrical systems for Data Centres, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client specifications. This includes low and medium-voltage power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, BMS, and critical power systems.
  • Project Management: Oversee all project phases, from conception to completion, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met. Develop project scopes, schedules, and budgets, and manage resources effectively.
  • Client Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, understanding their needs and expectations, providing technical advice, and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction. Facilitate regular client meetings and provide updates on project progress.
  • Team Leadership: Guide and mentor junior engineers and technicians within the team. Provide technical oversight and quality assurance on all deliverables.
  • Coordination & Collaboration: Collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines, architects, and external contractors to ensure seamless project delivery. Manage coordination between internal teams and stakeholders to ensure successful integration of electrical designs.
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure that all designs adhere to the relevant British Standards, International Codes, and industry best practices, including health and safety regulations.
  • Documentation: Prepare technical reports, specifications, and design documentation. Review and check all electrical design calculations, drawings, and specifications for accuracy and compliance.
  • Innovation & Development: Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, technologies, and innovations in Data Centre design. Drive continuous improvement in design standards and processes.


Qualifications & Experience


  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it) with a recognized professional body such as the IET or CIBSE.
  • Proven experience in the design and delivery of Data Centre projects, with a focus on electrical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant standards, regulations, and codes of practice.
  • Proficient in electrical design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Amtech, or similar tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, including budget control, resource allocation, and risk assessment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong client relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and lead a multidisciplinary team effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.


Desirable Skills


  • Experience with mission-critical systems and redundancy strategies.
  • Familiarity with sustainable design practices and energy-efficient solutions.
  • Project Management qualification (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of modern construction practices, including BIM and digital engineering tools.
