Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated PHP Team Lead to guide and manage a team of PHP developers, combining technical expertise with people management responsibilities. This role involves hands-on coding, alongside overseeing team performance, mentoring developers, and driving continuous improvement in code quality. The ideal candidate will excel in designing, testing, and refactoring legacy code while cultivating a collaborative and high-performing team environment.


Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership and Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of PHP developers by setting performance goals, providing regular feedback, fostering continuous learning, and implementing succession planning to support career growth and ensure long-term team success.

  • Performance Management: Manage and evaluate team performance using structured performance management systems, regular one-on-ones, and goal setting to cultivate a high-performing team and address development needs.

  • Technical Guidance: Provide technical leadership and guidance on best practices in PHP development, complex problem-solving, and code refactoring.

  • Problem Solving: Address complex technical challenges with innovative, efficient solutions to enhance scalability and performance.

  • Design and Development: Architect, develop, and maintain high-quality PHP applications, ensuring clean, efficient, and scalable code.

  • Legacy Code Refactoring: Oversee technical debt management strategies by reviewing and optimizing legacy code to enhance performance, readability, and maintainability.

  • Code Reviews: Conduct and oversee code reviews to uphold coding standards, encourage best practices, and ensure high-quality development.

  • Documentation: Ensure clear, comprehensive documentation is maintained for new features, code changes, and system architecture.

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices, implementing improvements to elevate team and project standards.


Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years in PHP development, including at least 2-3 years in a team lead or people management role.

  • Leadership and People Management: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team, providing guidance, feedback, and opportunities for growth.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong ability to tackle and resolve complex technical challenges with effective solutions.

  • Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in PHP and its frameworks (e.g., Laravel, Symfony).

  • Extensive experience in designing and implementing unit tests.

  • Expertise in refactoring legacy code and simplifying complex systems.

  • Solid understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).

  • Proficiency in version control systems (e.g., Git).

  • Soft Skills:

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for effective team collaboration and management.

  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to balance hands-on coding with management responsibilities.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with additional programming languages or technologies.

  • Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS).
