Job Description
Are you a military-trained mechanical engineer looking for your next challenge? I have a fantastic opportunity for an Engineer Surveyor in Birmingham to join my client's team, a leading independent surveying company expanding rapidly across the UK. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys a hands-on engineering career, providing critical inspection services in diverse environments, while developing new skills and gaining professional certifications.
Why You’ll Love This Role:
* Join a Team of Experts: Work with a company where 96% of their surveyors come from military backgrounds, including the director, offering a supportive, like-minded environment.
* Career Development: Comprehensive training provided, starting with a local Engineer Surveyor buddy to help you get started. Learn new skills, become a specialist, and grow with the business.
* Balanced Work-Life: Enjoy a Monday to Friday role with minimal weekend work, typically only required in rare cases, where you would receive additional compensation.
* Travel Opportunities: While this is a Birmingham-based role, there may be occasional UK travel, with no more than one or two nights away per month, and all expenses covered with an attractive overnight allowance.
* Flexible Management: A friendly and understanding management team that doesn’t micromanage, supporting your personal commitments, such as family events.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct inspections, examinations, and surveys on a wide range of engineering equipment, including cranes, lifting systems, and pressurised systems, at customer sites.
* Identify and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults in various equipment, ensuring it’s safe for continued use.
* Provide detailed written reports following each inspection to support engineering projects.
* Offer remote support to customers and engineers as needed.
* Embrace continuous learning and improvement in your field.
What We’re Looking For:
* NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in mechanical engineering.
* A strong background in mechanical engineering, ideally with some experience in cranes, lifting systems, or pressure plant equipment (LOLER, PUWER, PSSR, COSHH knowledge beneficial).
* Comfortable with UK travel, staying away from home once or twice per month.
* A full UK driving licence and strong communication skills, as this is a customer-facing role.
* The ability to work independently and stay organised, ensuring timely completion of all inspections and reports.
What’s In It for You:
* Competitive starting salary with room for progression.
* Company car (Toyota Corolla or hybrid), with the option to upgrade.
* Generous pension scheme, 26 days of holiday plus bank holidays.
* Mobile phone, laptop, and all PPE provided.
* Additional allowances when travelling overnight, including accommodation and meal expenses.
* Ongoing professional development with opportunities to gain new qualifications.
