No Offer Description Host offer for one PhD position with a duration of three years , which can be joined by passing an entry examination. The annual gross amount of the grant, including social security expenses to be paid by the recipient, is €46,939. A budget for family allowance will be provided, if applicable. The position is open in the frame of the Horizon Europe MSCA DN project Natural Traces (Grant number 101120165), with University of Genoa (Italy) as Host Institution. The PhD position provides also for training periods in Italy and abroad, among the various partners involved in the project. TOPIC: Micro and macrofungi have great potential as forensic tools. In recent years, many of the applications of mycology have gone to forensic science. The project will improve basic biological mycological knowledge necessary for forensic interpretation. The aim is to improve the knowledge of fungi occurring on victims, belongings, and crime scenes. In this context, the focus will be on comparing the fungi present in/on the victims with those present at the location where the corpse was discovered. To this goal, fungi will be studied by direct examination, cultured strain, isolation, long-term preservation, and DNA analysis. Moreover, the research will investigate the aging activity caused by the growth of mycelia, through in vitro and in vivo experiments, exploiting the biodeterioration and biodegradation ability of fungi.
