Principal Primary Engineer - HV Substations

Our client are now looking for a Principal Primary Design Engineer to join their team, working in the Transmission & Distribution sector. You will be expected to take the CDAE role for HV Plant for National Grid projects and will also be responsible for supervising a small team.

You have the option to be based in either London, the North West or East, the Midlands or Scotland depending on what is closest to you.

Principal responsibilities:

• You will be an important figure in the team, delivering detailed and complex turnkey designs


• Work on flagship, high-profile projects in the UK


• Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team you will have links into the wider network of engineers within the business to learn and grow


• Reporting to the HV Substation Team Lead


• Provide updates to the Business Development Tracker


• Guiding junior and other engineers involved in technical tasks


• Guiding CAD technicians working in packages such as AutoCAD, Revit, Microstation, etc

Key skills/experience required:

• You'll need to have significant experience in the production of all designs, calculations, reports & drawings associated with new or modifications of HV substation projects up to 400kV, covering primary design and engineering elements.


• Experience as HV Plant CDAE accreditation by National Grid, or not yet accredited but have worked on National Grid projects


• Sufficient UK National Grid design experience


• It is preferable to come from a Power Engineering background
