Team Leader - Children's Residential Home

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Physical/Emotional/Social Needs of Children

1. To supervise other support worker within the team as required in line with company policy and expectations

2. To be the designated responsible person for the home and its young people when on shift, and ensure daily handovers are taking place and communications are delivered to a high standard.

3. To promote, safeguard and protect the welfare of each child

4. Encourage Children to develop their full educational and vocational attainment

5. Establish and maintain positive and trusting relationships with the children that will promote their sense of security

6. Provide firm, consistent and fair boundaries in respect of their behaviour and employ appropriate and agreed consequences.

7. Ensure that appropriate medical help is provided in cases of illness and accidents

8. Promote the development of a healthy lifestyle for Children

9. Assist Children in the development and sustaining of positive social networks with adults and other peer groups.

10. To organise and participate in group activities and group holidays

11. To assist in the provision/preparation of meals and cleaning in the home.

12. To assist and support Children through the process of leaving care

13. To engage in and supervise day to day care practices, creating an accepting environment conducive to the positive personal development of each Child

15. To undertake in planning for and preparation of Children for moving in or moving on. This may include professional negotiations to ensure that the Child transfers to an environment stable for that individual and one where he/she can cope or be assisted to cope.

TeamWork

1. To ensure that all Children have care plans and to develop, implement and review packages of care

2. To work as a member of a team, ensuring that the reception, on-going care and discharge of children is undertaken in accordance with the statutory framework and policies & procedures of the organisation

3. To attend and contribute to adult get together meetings; this involves participation and collaboration with other adults in the home in the provision of care to enable the development of the home.

4. To work closely and in co-operation with carers, social worker, adults in the home, specialists and other professional agencies in accordance with the role and function of the home.

5. To develop and maintain appropriate professional relationships with families and other agencies.

6. Attend child care reviews and other forums where childrens needs are being considered

7. To support less experienced adults in the home from time to time as part of their programme of induction to the work and operation of the home in conjunction with the organisations policies and procedures

8. Undertake sleep in duties as appropriate

9. Make positive use of supervision by senior adults in the home

10. Participate in the continuious development of the adults working in the home

11. To actively seek out opportunity for professional development.

12. All adults in the home are expected to undertake training to Diploma level 3.

Administrative

1. To undertake routine administrative tasks and provide written reports and maintain the Childs file as required by the organisations policies and procedures

2. Compile reports, including Reviews, Progress and Incident reports

3. Adhere to appropriate guidelines and procedures. To receive complaints in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organisation

4. To undertake financial management and recording of day to day petty cash maintenance in accordance with the organisations policies and procedures

5. To carry out duties in accordance with the health & safety at work act, adopting safe working practices, in accordance with the organisations policies and procedures

6. All duties and responsibilities will be carried out in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organisation

The Ideal Candidate

What we are looking for:

  • Someone who is passionate about raising the bar for children in care
  • Level 3 Diploma with Children & Young People
  • Flexibility within your hours; able to work shifts, weekends
  • Good understanding of Safeguarding
  • Good understanding of professional boundaries and how to maintain them
