JOB TITLE Individual Giving – Product Lead DUTY STATION Remote CONTRACT TYPE Short-Term, Regular Consultant (CST-2) DURATION 11 months LINE MANAGER/SUPERVISOR Head of International Individual Giving ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT The Private Partnerships Division (PSP) is responsible for mobilizing resources from the private sector. PSP has developed an ambitious five-year strategy and our ambition is based on need. The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies, and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. Work as hard as we might, through drought and floods, conflict and peace, disasters natural or man-made, the needs are immense and growing. 828 million people in the world do not have enough food to eat. To get to a world with Zero Hunger faster, WFP has significantly increased resources in recent years from donor governments, and now investing in and growing private sector fundraising to reach more people. WFP’s private sector strategy (2020 – 2025) has already dramatically increased income from individuals to help reach more people and get to Zero Hunger faster, using new digital engagement tools to reach audiences across the globe in a flexible and cost-effective way. Traditional individual fundraising in our sector was primarily conducted through offline channels and implemented through national fundraising operations. The individual fundraising market now looks very different, with the vast majority of potential donors having a digital presence and comfort with transacting online. WFP has a unique opportunity to define its approach amid this digital change, and leapfrog peers through its creation of a digital-led fundraising strategy that engages people worldwide from one centralized team. INDIVIDUAL FUNDRAISING WFP currently has the fastest growing global individual fundraising programme. Our focus is a digital-first strategy, working through a centralized global team recruiting supporters primarily through digital channels (Meta, TikTok & Google) and building an outstanding supporter experience through a multi-channel loyalty programme that aims to deliver a best-in-class donor experience. The programme now recruits donors in English, French, German, Spanish and Arabic, with language capabilities also including Korean, and it delivers the supporter experience through email, SMS, WhatsApp, outbound telephone and social media in over 192 countries. PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT WFP’s Individual Giving Team is looking for a thoughtful, resourceful, and independent person to lead our dedicated Product Team within the Private Partnerships Division responsible for IT solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team and lead the development and growth of the Individual Giving digital IT stack as an enabler to fundraising growth now and in the future from Individuals. We are looking for this person to come in and initially assess the existing team resource, structure, and stack against the needs of the current programme requirements, making the necessary adjustments before the end of the current strategy period (2020-25). We want a future thinker - collaborating with peers in Supporter Acquisition and Supporter Experience to understand how best to deliver the technical solutions needed for future leaps in growth in income from individuals, associated with the 2026-2030 PSP Growth Strategy (currently under development) to ensure our IT tools, products and platforms grow with us and provide timely adaption in line with growth drivers. A key requirement of this role is to align with the overall WFP-wide TEC strategy and roadmap, forming key relationships with the central TEC team, ensuring synergies and well-managed transparent stakeholder relationships. This person does not need to be directly proficient with a specific tech tool or platform, however direct experience of Salesforce Cloud would be desirable. They need to be a strategic thinker and able to lead a team of experts that deliver best in class IT stack and solutions, in scope, in budget and within the desired time frame. In doing so they need to have an understanding of the functionality within a broad range of IT based tools, platforms and solutions and, how best to implement and resource them to meet the needs of the end user now and in the future to ultimately drive performance. They will have extensive experience of working in IT based environments, ideally with CRMs, CRO, digital paid media, and/or e-commerce platforms. Alongside a have track record of project managing and delivering IT based solutions/stacks, managing associated budgets, and deploying resource that fully meet the needs of the requestor and end user. ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES The Product Lead's role is to be the custodian of the product vision and accountable for maximising the value your IT solution brings to Individual Giving and WFP. This is done by understanding business and end-user requirements (collaborating with PSP’s Supporter Acquisition and Supporter Experience teams) and prioritising features to be implemented. To manage and lead a team of specialists covering the following IT platforms for Individual Giving – Salesforce Cloud, GoDonate, GoCardless, Stripe. To be the lead relationship holder with all core software partners for the IG team, including leading on the integration with global support partners and those who are market specific. To be a member of the IG leadership team - work cohesively and collaboratively with peers and representing the objectives and goals of the IG product team. To coach, mentor and manage (as applicable) a team of experts covering the discipline of solutions architect, tech stack developer, salesforce lead developer, product and platform manager, and project manager. Ensuring they have a clear development path, annual objectives that are aligned to the team’s strategic objectives and create a team culture that fosters high staff retention and satisfaction. To build and deliver annual roadmaps that align with and can adjust to the needs of a growing fundraising programme and contribute to the delivery of the overall strategic fundraising targets - as part of a team wide integrated planning approach alongside the Supporter Acquisition and Supporter Experience leads. To build, foster and grow internal collaboration with key stakeholder groups, including the central WFP TEC team. Able to represent the needs and strategic priorities of the IG team, whilst ensuring synergies especially during times of rapid growth. To advocate for, communicate and drive forwards the technical needs of IG with both internal and external partners. Always ensuring WFP returns maximum efficiencies for their technical investments, whilst being delivered within the resource and capacity available. To lead on the end-to-end development of all IT product-based solutions for Individual Giving, including management of budget and resource, whilst ensuring the solution is delivered on time and with exceptional quality assurance. To ensure the IG Team is familiar with the latest insights and technology advancements across advertising platforms e.g., Facebook for developers, Google for developers, TikTok for developers. To manage and develop IG's API solutions for advertising platforms i.e. Facebook Conversions API. To create efficient processes for reporting outages or bugs across platforms and investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues as required. In collaboration with Comms, maintain IG's marketing and analytics tags via GTM (Google Ads, Facebook Pixel, TikTok Pixel) ensuring that events are implemented correctly and maintained over time. To define and evolve IG’s UTM tagging structure in collaboration with fundraising teams, BI Hub and Comms as needed. To review and develop new ways of working and processes across the IG team that are grounded in both efficiency and quality assurance. To work closely and align with other PSP counterparts, especially with ShareTheMeal (WFPs Public Fundraising App). Ensuring efficiencies where possible, shared learning and explore areas of collaboration for mutual benefit. To keep abreast of the developments within WFP’s IG Fundraising programme, across the fundraising sector, alongside technology advancements in the corporate world and bring relevant learning to the team in particular the latest developments in MarTech, FinTech and AdTech. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Education University degree in a relevant discipline. Or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses. Sufficient years of experience in computer science, mathematics, software engineering, or related fields. Work history Minimum of 10 years progressive experience working in or leading teams in an IT product based or digital first team environment. Experience at the international level, including at a UN agency and humanitarian organization is desirable. Experience with multi-vendor project and delivery coordination and management. Experience deploying in enterprise production environments. Experience with design and development team set-ups. Experience of managing teams and able to adapt management style to meet the individual needs of direct line reports. Technical expertise In-depth knowledge and proficiency with product management (vision and product strategy), product backlog management (analyse, create, refine, and prioritize product backlog items), Agile Scrum and mainstream software design & development methodologies. Strong customer empathy and a passion for building great user experiences across web and mobile devices. Practical understanding of how to make a solution successful at scale. Having direct experience of implementing a Salesforce Cloud is desirable. Soft skills Excellent communicator with ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across different cultures, disciplines, and time zones. Ability to think creatively, strategically, and identify and resolve problems. Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Well organized and detail oriented. Able to effectively coordinate multiple responsibilities simultaneously. Able to articulate complex concepts in non-technical language. Able to plan and organize work and communicate effectively.
