Job Description
Job Purpose
The Principal Engineer will provide leadership in delivering engineering and technical activities by applying process, domain knowledge and experience.
Key Responsibilities
• Adhere to Health & Safety standards, authorised documentation, Good Practise Guides, and ISO standards.
• Effectively manage multi-disciplinary teams to deliver engineering work efficiently and on time.
• Supervise engineers and technical specialists.
• Foster collaboration across Engineering and other functional teams.
• Manage customers, including building relationships with existing and new customers, resolving technical and delivery issues, and keeping customers informed of progress.
• Oversee the technical management of engineering output to deliver technical solutions in line with agreed scope.
• Produce, review, verify, and approve outputs, including calculations, analyses, technical reports, technical specifications, and method statements.
• Ensure that adequate review, verification, and approval are conducted for all deliverables, including those under direct control and supervision.
• Identify and apply procedures, codes, and standards correctly to engineering and technical activities.
• Maintain the highest standards for health and safety in their immediate area of responsibility, and ensure all team members in engineering comply with company standards on health, safety, environment, ethics, and behaviours.
• Manage resource demands and develop skills to match the needs of assigned work scopes.
Experience/Qualifications/Skills
Essential:
Engineering degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant engineering discipline, with significant demonstrable experience.
Chartered Engineer status.
• Currently or recently in a position as [advertised role position/equivalent].
• Understanding of the fundamentals of mechanical engineering.
• Demonstrable experience applying the fundamentals of mechanical engineering.
• Demonstrable experience working with and to Regulations (Senior & Principals) and Standards.
• Demonstrable experience working on/leading a team through the lifecycle (or parts of it) on nuclear projects.
• Demonstrable experience solving technical and interpersonal challenges.
• Able to articulate technical concepts to peers and developing engineers.
• Checking of documents and drawings (Senior & Principal).
• Seeking development.
• Seeking to lead and develop others.
• Working in the office with the team at least twice a week.
Desirable Experience
• Experience in manufacturing fabricated structures.
• Experience in substantiating designs through hand calculations and FEA.
• Experience in failure mechanisms.
• Experience of test and trials.
• Experience of welding.
• Experience of NDT.
• Experience in line management of team members (Principal).
Member of relevant institute or significant demonstrable engineering experience and capable of registration with the Engineering Council
