Job Description
The Packaging Designer/ Analyst will be responsible for the design and development of returnable and specialised packaging solutions. The designs and detailed drawings will be created using AutoCAD Inventor, with drawings in both 2D and 3D formats. Overseeing the manufacturing process is critical to the success of every design project, and as such, it will require effective project management and regular site visits. The Packaging Analyst will also be responsible for research and development, technical specifications, manufacturing practices and process control, product specification and graphic design, regulatory knowledge, materials procurement, and project management from design conceptualisation to product implementation Duties: Design and Development: Set high goals and standards of work for self and others. Meticulous, precise and thorough attention to detail. Arrives at appropriate, logical and effective decisions. Understand the impact of decision-making on all aspects of the business, considering resources, legislation, costs and budgets. Develop a detailed Scope of Work through client interaction and specifications. Review and analyse client specifications, including engineering drawings. Developed and designed specialised packaging solutions using AutoCAD Inventor. Plans and coordinates design and development activities. Develops or directs the development of sketches, product specifications, prototype or production samples, and written analyses of proposed packaging to present design for approval. Client presentation on final packaging solution. Cost Accounting and Procurement: Effective cross-department communication at all levels Consult with finance and purchasing departments, as well as external suppliers, and define the project cost with a feasibility analysis of proposed packaging solutions. Consolidates project cost with material specifications and 2D drawings for review by the internal Cost Accountant. Assists Business Development with design, product and material specifications. Project Management: Effective communication with external manufacturing facilities. Assists manufacturing facilities via regular site reviews, updated manufacturing 2D drawings and 3D design models. Plans, coordinates, manages and directs manufacturing activities, including procurement of buy-out materials. Identifies and organises all the resources needed to achieve deadlines. Be aware of deadlines and will work out the time allocation necessary to carry out the work. Flexible in planning when circumstances change. Effective time management. Monitors progress against objectives and targets. Set step-by-step action plans for each of the goals and follow up regularly. Influence the attitudes and opinions of others and gain agreement with proposals, plans, and ideas; be skilled at negotiating. Confers with customers or sales representatives to obtain design, prototype and production sample approvals. Advises employers or customers on efficient packing procedures, innovations in packaging materials and safe handling practices Requirements: National Certificate: Multi-Disciplinary Draughting (N5), or National Diploma: Structural Steel Work Detailing (NQF 5), or Mechanical Engineering Qualification At least 2 years of Material Planning and Logistics (MP&L) and/or Engineering and Manufacturing experience Experience in the design, development and manufacturing of Returnable Packaging Solutions will be an added advantage Knowledge and skills 2D/3D CAD Design Software Autodesk Inventor Preferred. Project Management. Time Management. MS Office, Including MS Projects. Traveling throughout South Africa.
