Job Description
Our client, an internationally established producer and marketer of export quality fish products, is seeking a dynamic leader for the position of CEO. The group operates 15 Commercial fishing vessels and 2 processing, ice plant, and cold storage facilities. The company also has a significant focus on delivering management services to a number of fishing related businesses. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be responsible for providing strategic leadership across the organisation. This role requires a forward-thinking leader who can drive the company's growth, optimize financial performance, and maintain a strong operational foundation while ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. Overall responsible for the ethical, effective and efficient management and continuous improvement of the group of fishing related companies. The successful candidate for this senior role will manage the company from its headquarters in Port St Francis in the Eastern Cape. Duties and responsibilities: STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP - 15% Develop and communicate a compelling company vision and long-term strategic goals aligned with market trends and industry regulations Collaborate closely with the Board of Directors to define strategic objectives and secure approval for major strategic initiatives. Identify and capitalize on emerging opportunities within the fishing industry, ensuring the company remains competitive and innovative. Oversee the successful implementation of business strategies through effective programme management. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT - 10% Strategically guide financial planning, budgeting, and fiscal management to enhance profitability. Oversee financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, compliance with regulations, and alignment with strategic goals. Optimize resource allocation and expense control to bolster overall financial health and profitability. OPERATIONS - 10% Responsible to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of operations, including factory processes, fishing operations, and supply chain management to ensure maximum efficiency and product quality. Ensure the implementation of best practices in logistics, production, and quality control to meet customer demand and sustain product excellence. Instill a culture of safety, sustainability, and adherence to industry standards throughout the organisation. PEOPLE MANAGEMENT - 10% Develop, support, and retain a high-performing management team, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. Lead performance management processes, ensuring that all team members are aligned with the companys strategic goals. Champion the companys accepted culture and values including honesty, integrity, industriousness for the benefit of all the stakeholders. EXTERNAL LIASON AND RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT - 10% Serve as the face of the company, ensuring strong relationships with key industry stakeholders, clients, suppliers, partners, service providers, and regulatory bodies. Oversee the company's community and stakeholder engagement initiatives, ensuring alignment with company values and long-term goals. Proactively manage the companys public image, ensuring respect and credibility within the industry and broader community. Oversee and manage company and vessel related services to various rightsholders in the fishing industry. BUSINESS DEVLEOPMENT & MARKET PENETRATION - 15% Drive continuous improvement through good quality management practices. Drive market share expansion and brand recognition by developing and executing innovative marketing and sales strategies. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and loyalty. Identify and pursue new business opportunities, securing contracts, and forming strategic partnerships to drive business growth. TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION - 5% Ensure that technology solutions that enhance operational efficiency and competitiveness are identified and implemented. Lead exploration of new business prospects and technological innovations to maintain the company's competitive edge. Ensure that ICT is appropriately governed to create and protect business value. REGULATORY COMPLIANCE AND RISK MANAGEMENT - 10% Oversee and ensure the companys operations are fully compliant with industry regulations, including sustainable fishing practices and environmental standards. Identify and mitigate risks that could impact the company's operations, reputation, or financial stability. Responsible to ensure that company policies and procedures are maintained and consistently adhered to. BOARD ENGAGEMENT AND REPORTING - 15% Regularly report to the Board of Directors, providing updates on financial performance, strategic progress, and operational issues. Ensure that all Board resolutions are implemented in a timely, efficient, and effective manner. Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Science, Engineering or a related field. An MBA or equivalent advanced degree is preferred. Minimum Experience: 7 years of executive business leadership experience, preferably within the fishing industry or a related field.
